Hey Everyone!

I hope your semesters are going well!
For those of you that came to our information sessions or have spoken with us in
Beam Hall, you may already know about the upcoming trip to New York City for the
International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant show. Some of you have already indicated
your interest in the New York trip so this email is to give everyone details on
the trip.
The IHM & RS show itself runs from November 7-9, 2009. On the 7th, IHM & RS
holds a Hospitality Leadership Forum where industry leaders speak on various
current issues. (This event costs $139 to attend in addition to the $30 exhibit
entrance fee.) On the 8th and the 9th, the exhibits open and various products
are showcased on the floor. Another highlight is the New York Marketplace. For
more details, go to the website, www.ihmrs.com.

In addition to the show, Hotel Association members will have free time to
explore the city. There is a possibility that tours of New York hotels will be
offered but details are still being established.

The other important aspect of the trip is the UNLV alumni reception. UNLV will
be hosting a reception for its alumni on Monday, November 9 from 6-8pm. Hotel
Association members would be expected to mingle/work at this reception by
running the registration tables, handing out nametags, etc.

Regarding flights to/from Vegas, members will be responsible for booking their
own tickets. The Hotel Association executive board members and committee
members will be taking the same flight. It will most likely be a red eye/late
night flight on Thursday, November 5 and an early morning flight on Tuesday,
November 10. If general members would like more information about this flight,
they will need to contact Lauri. The more the merrier, eh?!

As far as lodging in New York, the Hotel Association will be staying at the
Grand Hyatt in New York. This lovely hotel is located close to the show and
includes a courtesy shuttle route from the hotel to the show. The nightly rate
is $299/night but that can be split among members, up to 4 occupants per room.
However, as an EARLY-BIRD INCENTIVE, members who RSVP by this Wednesday with a
down payment for their hotel room are eligible for the Hotel College group rate
of $279/night (as opposed to the IHM & RS rate of $299/night). Simply RSVP and
give your payment to Lauri BY WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 and she will include you
in the block. However, do not worry if you do not wish to confirm your trip
attendance by this Wednesday. You will still be able to get a room. ;)

Here are the main details:
Dates of the trip: Thursday, November 5 - Tuesday, November 10, 2009
Show: International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show (November 7-10, 2009)
Hotel: Grand Hyatt New York
Mandatory Event: UNLV Alumni Reception, November 9, 2009 and attendance at IHM &
RS

Pricing Details (due to change & depending on external circumstances):
Flight: $350 (approximately depending upon booking- currently flights are closer
to the $250 rate)
Hotel: $279/night rate divided by 2-4 people = $139.50-$69.75/night x 4 nights =
$558-279 total
Exhibit Hall Fee (show entrance fee): $30
Transportation to/from Airport/Hotel: $30
Approximate total (not including individual meals & entertainment expenses):
$968-689

Optional addition: Hospitality Leadership Forum: $139

Just a couple of notes...
1) The total may seem high but the Hotel Association will be paying for the
Exhibit Hall fee as a small way of helping its members.
2) Financial aid is a possibility. In the past, Dean Mann has been kind enough
to provide money to pay for a portion of each student's trip cost. The Hotel
Association will be meeting with him to discuss this possibility for this year.

Please feel free to respond with any questions!

Best regards,

The Executive Board, UNLV Hotel Association
