As an extension to Birmingham Uni's juggling convention (2002: One Step
Beyond, 16th March) we're thinking of going PAINTBALLING on Sunday 17th (the
day after the convention).
Floor crash space would be available on the Saturday night but I'll need to
know how many people are interested.

This means the event will now consist of:
Saturday 16th:
daytime convention (with games in afternoon)
evening renegade show at pub followed by balti

Sunday 17th:
daytime PAINTBALLING!!

If anyone is thinking of coming to our convention and is interested in
coming paintballing with us PLEASE EMAIL US ASAP, (circus@...),
its quite urgent that I get an idea of numbers!
The cost will be around £30 which includes transport from Birmingham. I
can't guarantee this will be the final price but it shouldn't be much more
(we're students so price will be kept rock bottom!!).
For further info about what the sport of paintballing is please visit the
university's paintballing society's webpage, www.guild.bham.ac.uk/paintsoc

For any further info about our convention please go to our website
www.guild.bham.ac.uk/circus and follow the links to "One Step Beyond"

Alternatively email us at circus@... and we'll get back to you
as soon as we can.

Thanks for your time,

Anna Weston
(President, Birmingham Uni Circus Society)

I quite liked the tutorials as www.twjc.co.uk Much of it is text based, so
you need to look elsewhere for pictures.

don't go paintballing it's scary and IT HURTS - well you may enjoy it, but I
found it more painful than any concievable juggling injury (apart from dropping
a 5 contact ball shower on your head - but who would be that silly!!??)

"Duncan... I'm blind!"

Taken from whats surely the highlight of Ant n Decs career. The scene in
Byker Grove where Duncan (Dec) shoots PJ (Ant) in the face with a paintball
gun.

Some would say it was a shame it was only a paintball gun.

but I couldn't *possibly* comment.

It is a bit quiet at the moment...

So lets busyt it up a bit by discussing why it's so quiet shall we?

Or perhaps not. :-)

>If it is me (and it may well be) then how do i check/rectify the situation.

go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uk_jugglers/messages (You might
have to log in with the yahoo account you used to subscribe to this list...
you do have a yahoo account don't you? If not, I can recomend getting one,
it makes managing your yahoogroups lists a damn site easier. :-)

From there you can see all the messages that the list server knows about
and thereby deduce wether youre missing out on anything or not.

Apparently you're not missing out on anything, although according to the
timestamps on the mesages, it took about 10 hours for the post that I sent
yesterday to hit the list...

but then I think our mail server is playing up at the moment.

>ps it's good at Durham at the moment :P

Its not too shoddy in Bristol. It's even sunny at the moment.

What about a convention in Ambleside in June

Friday 14th Night : Ceilidh
Sat &Sunday: Full convention as usual - but will also include:

tightrope
trapeze
and other less frequent workshops
and if that's not all

a n on site performance from Nofit State - full (non animal) circus - in the
Big Top!!!

I know that is not immediate - but something reasonably big (once the
British is out of the way)

Loads more information will be available by the British at the end of the
month (if not sooner)

They were Gangstars, there were 4 of them and they did hat juggling, a
little tumbling and stuff on a ring (hula hoop size) suspended from the
ceiling - including toe hang! Ouch! Doesn't hurt - my arse... implies
anyone can do it if so inclined. IME it takes ages to toughen the feet
enough that it doesn't hurt!

Apparently they open soon at Circus Space (didn't catch when), then
they're touring the UK, including my nearest city so I may be going! :)

You can always cheat like I do and wear boxing boots. Makes toe hang a lot

HI all

If you are going to the BJC 2002 ( british Juggling convention) in
Whitstable at easter you might like to join in with a long unicycle ride on
the Saturday afternoon. Unless the weather is rubbish a group ride is on
offer from Whitstable to Canterbury , arriving in Canterbury in time to
watch the BJC public show, and then catch a BJC bus back to site. the trip
is approx nine miles part off road, part on road, and so is only suitable
for 26 inch or bigger wheels ( 24s will be considered if the rider is up to
9 miles riding fast:-), riden by fit people. If your under 14 you will need
to bring a nominated adult with you, not nessesarily your parent, but
someone who will keep an eye on you, they can be on a two wheeled bike.

Apart from a unicycle in good condition you will need to bring a waterproof,
a drink, a snack of some kind (dried fruit, mars bar etc), some money
for food in Canterbury and a bum bag or small backpack to put these in.

**Wearing of Gloves or wrist guards is highly recomended, and knee pads
and/or cycle helmets can be a good idea.**

For any mad souls that want to ride both ways, bring lights, I'll give you
the map for the return journey.

Look out for details of the meeting time and place on the workshop board at BJC.

If anyone out there wants a preview of Vova and Olga the Russian jugglers who
will be appearing at the BJC and again at Crawley later in the year, we are
going to be taking them up to London to be on a CBBC Digital programme called
Xchange.

We're going up there on Thursday with them to be there for 6.30 AM so as the
programme goes out at 7.00 AM I'm assuming it will be live.

I don't get Digital myself so if anyone fancies recording it for me and letting
me have a copy at the British I would be most grateful, I could then show it to
Vova and Olga after the British.

Well, sort of.

Am I the only one who *completely* agreed with Alexei Sayle (sp?) putting
new circus in general and specifically Cirque du Solei in room 101 last night?

I did think his comment of "It's really hard, but it's still carp" sums up a
lot of the pretentious, newcircus nonsense I've seen over the years.

Especially slow, tortuous acro acts.

And don't even get me started on arial.

Good stuff! I saw them talking about it and though 'yeah, nice idea guys!'
and prepared to watch it fall over. It didn't. And it seeemed loads
quicker than all the others I've seen on there too!

I've just had a quick look online, and have found there's a web page for it:

http://www.boltontech.org.uk/loony_cycle.htm

For those who don't know, the techno games is on BBC2 each day this week and
next, and there's an event where a radio controlled cycle has to do two laps
of a track.

This yike like thing is in the final, which I think is on thursday, around
6pm.

Dave
