IMPORTANT SEVIS ALERT FOR F-1 and J-1!

On January 1, 2003, new immigration laws for F-1 and J-1 students and
scholars came into effect. On January 30, 2003, the new "Student and
Exchange Visitor Information System" SEVIS) program began. SEVIS will
require UC Irvine to electronically report information on all F-1, J-
1, F-2 and J-2 visa holders directly to the U.S. government.

The International Center wants to inform you that your current non-
SEVIS I-20 or DS-2019 will be replaced with a new SEVIS I-20 or DS-
2019 later this quarter. Current I-20s and DS-2019s will not be valid
after August 1, 2003.

Your first step to SEVIS compliance is to attend one of the
International Center's MANDATORY SEVIS Workshops. Please bring copies
of I-20/DS2019, passport expiration page, visa, and I-94 (front &
back).
