Have you heard about our CAPTAIN VICTORY GRAPHITE EDITION?
Since the 1960s, legendary comic book artist JACK KIRBY (co-creator of
the Fantastic Four, Hulk, Thor, Silver Surfer, New Gods, and others)
photocopied his penciled pages before they were inked. Unfortunately,
his outdated copier used a process similar to thermal faxes, so this
pencil art archive is quickly fading away. But you can do your part to
preserve the historical legacy of King Kirby! For the first time, his
original CAPTAIN VICTORY GRAPHIC NOVEL is presented as it was created
in 1975 (before being broken up and modified for the later Pacific
Comics series), reproduced from Jack's own copies of his uninked
pencils! This first "new" Kirby comic in years features page
after page of prime pencils, and includes Jack's unused Captain
Victory screenplay, unseen art, and more! Besides presenting this
classic story in never-before-seen pencil form, all proceeds from this
comic go toward the huge task of scanning and restoring the 4000+ page
archive of Kirby's pencil photocopies, before they're gone
forever! TwoMorrows Publishing and The Jack Kirby Collector magazine
are undertaking this enormous restoration project with the full
cooperation of the Kirby family, so order your copy of Captain
Victory: Graphite Edition, and help ensure this material will be
around for future generations to enjoy, appreciate, and learn from!

FROM THE PUBLISHER:
We've got a lot of exciting publications due out between now and the
end of 2003, and I wanted to update you on their status, so let's get started!
MODERN MASTERS VOL. TWO, GEORGE PEREZ: Running a little late, but
the final proofs are being reviewed by Perez now, and should be going
to press within two weeks, and shipping around November 12. ERIC
NOLEN-WEATHINGTON's second volume has turned out absolutely
amazing, and will be a really nice companion to the Perez coverage in
the first issue of our new magazine BACK ISSUE, which also ships in early
November.
AGAINST THE GRAIN: MAD ARTIST WALLACE WOOD: On-press now! It's
the ultimate book on Wood, edited by BHOB STEWART, with BILL PEARSON
and ROGER HILL deeply involved as well, and design by GREG SADOWSKI.
After this 353-page(!) hardcover and 336-page softcover are released,
what more can be written and shown about Wood? Both versions (and the
WALLACE WOOD CHECKLIST) should be shipping on October 29.
LEGION COMPANION: GLEN CADIGAN's book is finished, and has been in
the hands of DC Comics' legal department for several weeks. We're
just waiting for a final OK from them, and then it'll be going to press.
Wish I could give you a definite date, but it'll be shipping roughly four weeks
after DC Legal gives us their final OK, which'll hopefully be any day now...
CRAZY HIP GROOVY GO-GO WAY OUT MONSTERS! Pete Von Sholly's
spoof of monster magazines is on-press, and will be in stores October
8 for Halloween, as planned. (And look for Pete's King Kong cover and
feature in ALTER EGO #29 the same week!)
DICK GIORDANO: CHANGING COMICS, ONE DAY AT A TIME: This one's at
the printer now, and will be shipping October 8, right on schedule. MICHAEL
EURY's done it again, producing an exhaustive biography of one of the comic
greats!
HERO GETS GIRL! THE LIFE & ART OF KURT SCHAFFENBERGER: This
one, by MARK VOGER, is done, and is scheduled to be shipping as
planned in November. It's a touching (and absolutely stunningly-designed)
look at the life and career of the Lois Lane/Supergirl/Captain Marvel artist.
MAGAZINES:
BACK ISSUE #1 is almost done, and the combination of MICHAEL EURY's
editing and ROBERT CLARK's amazing design work will, I predict, leave
readers saying, "Why aren't ALL comics magazines done like this?" BI
#1 focuses on the best comics of the 1970s, '80s, and today, and is
still on track for on-time shipping in early November.
As usual, ALTER EGO is always shipping on-time each month, thanks to
the hard work of ROY THOMAS and designer CHRIS DAY! #30, with an ALEX
ROSS cover, goes to press next week, for November release.
DRAW! #7 is, unfortunately, running late, but MIKE MANLEY is putting
the finishing touches on it this week, and it should be shipping in early
November.
WRITE NOW #6 is almost done, and should be shipping roughly on-time
at the beginning of November.
Lastly, JACK KIRBY COLLECTOR #39 is running well past its planned
August release, and I'm not going to be able to get it out until late
November at the soonest. A lot of factors are temporarily limiting the number
of hours I have to work on it, but as soon as things free up here, I should be
able to get it back on schedule for quarterly or better shipping. (I'm anxious
to
get #39 out, so I can get started on #40, which focuses on OMAC and
KAMANDI--an issue I've been waiting to do for nearly ten years!)
If you forgot to order any of these publications but would like to,
be sure to go to www.twomorrows.com to reserve your copies!

John Morrow

HERO GETS GIRL! The Life and Art of Kurt Schaffenberger
HERO GETS GIRL! The Life and Art of Kurt Schaffenberger is the story
of the preeminent Lois Lane artist and important early Captain Marvel
artist who brought a touch of humor and whimsy to super-hero comics!
This profusely illustrated biography covers Kurt's life from his
entry into comics in the 1940s to his passing in 2002, featuring
hundreds of never-before-published photos and illustrations, and is

artist's wife Dorothy. In it, Schaffenberger is also recalled by
family, friends and fellow artists such as Murphy Anderson, Will
Eisner, Carmine Infantino, Joe Kubert, Alex Ross and Mort Walker-just
a handful of the top comics professionals who were influenced by or

CRAZY HIP GROOVY GO-GO WAY-OUT MONSTERS
Remember when monster magazines were new? Remember when they were
great? When they were loaded with cool articles and pictures and
behind-the-scenes glimpses into who did what - and how - on your
favorite monster films? Then boy, are you old! CRAZY HIP GROOVY GO-GO
WAY-OUT MONSTERS is a twisted, hilarious, backward plunge into the fun
we thought we were having, replete with fake letters-to-the-editor,
phony ads for worthless, wacky stuff, tons of stills from imaginary
films as bad as any that were really made, interviews with their
"creators," - and much more! CHGGGWOM is the magazine that never was
- and all the ones that really were! Hollywood storyboard legend Pete
Von Sholly ("Mars Attacks," "Darkman") has created this outlandish
spoof that will seem like EIGHTY PAGES of filler and reprints! Noted
film director Frank Darabont ("The Shawshank Redemption," "The Green
Mile") says, "CHGGGWOM is a laff riot, Von Sholly style!" Don't miss
it!
The 48-page, saddle-stitched, 8-1/2" x 11" magazine with a full color
cover and black-and-white interiors retails for $5.95 in the U.S. and

CRAZY HIP GROOVY GO-GO WAY-OUT MONSTERS - shipping 15 October
Mile") says, "CHGGGWOM is a laff riot, Von Sholly style!" Don't miss
it!
The 48-page, saddle-stitched, 8-1/2" x 11" magazine with a full color
cover and black-and-white interiors retails for $5.95 in the U.S. and
is available directly from TwoMorrows for $8 Postpaid (Canada: $10,
Elsewhere: $11 Surface, $15 Airmail).

Dick Giordano: Changing Comics, One Day at a Time (176-page trade

Blaise, Deathmask), inker (working with Neal Adams, John Byrne, and
George Perez, among countless others), editor (for Charlton's
legendary "Action Heroes" line, and DC's groundbreaking series of the
late 1960s/early 1970s), and editorial administrator (The Dark Knight

SONS OF THUNDER CANCELLED!
Due to the tremendous amount of material we've tracked down on both
C.C. Beck and Kurt Schaffenberger, we feel it would do both artists a
disservice to bundle them together into one book as originally planned
with Sons of Thunder. So we're cancelling Sons of Thunder, and
splitting it up into separate, longer books! Look for details on an
expanded Kurt Schaffenberger solo book, which'll be released by year's
end, and a separate C.C. Beck book for early 2004. Refunds to anyone
who preordered Sons of Thunder will be processed by the end of May. We
apologize for the inconvenience, but we're confident fans will be even
happier with the end result!

THE EXTRAORDINARY WORKS OF ALAN MOORE
From WATCHMEN to THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, Alan Moore has
been widely recognized as one of comics greatest pioneers, and THE
EXTRAORDINARY WORKS OF ALAN MOORE tells his story, as the reclusive
British author speaks enthusiastically and passionately about his life
and work in an extensive series of interviews! Moore displays his
trademark wit and shares his unique insight on the comics that have
shaped his legendary career - from his beginnings on SWAMP THING to
the current success of his own AMERICA'S BEST COMICS.
Editor GEORGE (Kimota!) KHOURY has assembled rare strips, scripts,
artwork and photographs of the author, most never published before. It
also features Moore's closest collaborators elaborating in comic strip
form on their relationships with Moore, from NEIL GAIMAN, DAVE
GIBBONS, and SAM KIETH to KEVIN O'NEILL, BRIAN BOLLAND and others!
(Don't confuse this book with a similarly-titled one coming from
Abiogenesis Press in May. This is an entirely different book featuring
new material from all contributors -- it's also the definitive
autobiographical work on Moore, over two years in the making!)
The 208-page trade paperback with color section ships July 2003 and
retails for $24.95. This book can be ordered directly from TwoMorrows

THE LIFE AND ART OF MURPHY ANDERSON -- shipping 26 June 2003
THE LIFE AND ART OF MURPHY ANDERSON is a lavishly illustrated
autobiographical memoir of the man whose style defined the DC look for
a generation of fans.
Beginning in comics in the Golden Age of the 1940s, Anderson went on
to produce a syndicated comic strip (Buck Rogers) and educational
comics (PS Magazine for the military) in addition to the
science-fiction comic books that his fans know and love. Now for the
first time, comics historian R.C. Harvey has compiled an exhaustive
look at the varied career of this cartooning legend, best known for
his ground-breaking work at DC Comics in the 1960s on such characters
as Superman, Hawkman, Adam Strange, the Atomic Knights, and others!
Murphy's recollections are peppered with comments and insights
about the state of the art and behind-the-scenes stories and anecdotes
about other artists he encountered (Lou Fine, Will Eisner, Curt Swan,
Gil Kane, and others), and illustrated with a generous sampling of
work from every phase of his career, particularly at Fiction House,
Ziff-Davis, and DC Comics, all direct from his personal archives.
It's the ultimate look at the career of one of comics' top
talents!

color covers and blach-&-white interiors retails for $15.95 in the

this book is profusely illustrated with previously unpublished artwork
by both artists, including pre-comic book work, art from Captain
Marvel, Lois Lane, and more, plus hundreds of rare photographs! Boom!
echoes the far-reaching thunder from the works of Beck and
Schaffenberger - their artwork's impact forever clamoring attention
with resounding tones! If you're a fan of either of these Golden and
Silver Age greats, this is a book you can't miss!

I've just updated the Twomorrows website with previews of Comic Book
Artist #15 and The Jack Kirby Collector #33.
COMIC BOOK ARTIST #15 is the '80s Vanguard issue which features
interviews with DAVE STEVENS, MARIO HERNANDEZ, GILBERT HERNANDEZ,
JAIME HERNANDEZ, PAUL RIVOCHE, DEAN MOTTER, MATT WAGNER and SANDY
PLUNKETT. You can read excerpts from the DAVE STEVENS and JAIME
HERNANDEZ interviews online at http://twomorrows.com/comicbookartist/15/
THE JACK KIRBY COLLECTOR #33 celebrates the FANTASTIC FOUR's 40th
anniversary. Not only is it filled with FF-themed articles--including
a new interview with STAN LEE and a tribute to JOE SINNOTT--but there
are so many TABLOID-SIZED Kirby FF pencil pages inside that editor
JOHN MORROW calles it the ULTIMATE TJKC issue! You can read two
articles (SHANE FOLEY's search for the origin of Kirby Krackle and
GLEN GOLD's ruminations on FF #15) and view a select few pencil pages
online at http://twomorrows.com/kirby/33/
Enjoy!
