A 'think outside the box' look at one of the GWI vets' chemical exposures One of the chemical exposures for the 90-91 Gulf War vets was a commonly used chemical from the 1930s to the present. It IS on the list of solvents and pesticides the gulf war troops were exposed to. 2-butoxyethanol and its compound version, diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, are solvents, but also in some odd way ... pesticides. Bullous pemphigoid, eczema & other skin issues such as Pemphigus vulgaris & DFSP may be autoimmune Bullous pemphigoid is thought to occur because IgG immunoglobulins (antibodies) and activated T lymphocytes (white blood cells) attack components of the basement membrane, particularly proteins associated with the hemidesmosomes. The proteins are within the NC16A domain of collagen XVII. Hemidesmosomes ensure the epidermal keratinocyte cells stick to the dermis to make a waterproof seal. The ‘autoimmune’ reaction to these proteins can be thought of as a type of allergy to one's own skin. Do you know what the liver does? Informative info. Are you taking any medications? If you also have fatigue & can't find the cause, it could be autoimmune hemolytic anemia.
