A 'think outside the box' look at one of the GWI vets' chemical exposures One of the chemical exposures for the 90-91 Gulf War vets was a commonly used chemical from the 1930s to the present. It IS on the list of solvents and pesticides the gulf war troops were exposed to. 2-butoxyethanol and its compound version, diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, are solvents, but also in some odd way ... pesticides. That would explain the endocrine disruption. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/helpfor-GWI-CFIDS/
A chemical of concern for many cancers, birth defects, FATIGUE Although the harm of this chemical is recongized by researchers, it is not recognized by people who are overly exposed ... nor their doctors. It starts out looking like the FLU. Remember a time when you had a serious FLU & Horrible fatigue and headaches? It should be suspect for causing CFIDS & 'gulf war syndrome' ... many birth defects and cancers. USA says they don't know about cancers/birth defects. It is a teratogen chemical in widespread use. Suspect it also for the epidemic of diabetes & many autoimmune metabolic issues including obesity, autism, leukodystrophies http://www.valdezlink.com/pages/post3-16.htm
Avoid 2-BE for Health A broad view of various military & civilian exposures to 2-butoxyethanol. Avoid this chemical even today, regardless of your initial exposure or your health situation could worsen http://www.valdezlink.com/re/msn/avoid2beforhealth-mm/menu.htm
Bullous pemphigoid, eczema & other skin issues such as Pemphigus vulgaris & DFSP may be autoimmune Bullous pemphigoid is thought to occur because IgG immunoglobulins (antibodies) and activated T lymphocytes (white blood cells) attack components of the basement membrane, particularly proteins associated with the hemidesmosomes. The proteins are within the NC16A domain of collagen XVII. Hemidesmosomes ensure the epidermal keratinocyte cells stick to the dermis to make a waterproof seal. The ‘autoimmune’ reaction to these proteins can be thought of as a type of allergy to one's own skin. In many patients, skin antibodies can also be detected circulating in the blood stream (positive indirect immunofluorescence). http://www.valdezlink.com/pages/autoimmune.htm#skin http://www.dermnetnz.org/immune/pemphigoid.html
Do you know what the liver does? Informative info. Are you taking any medications? If you also have fatigue & can't find the cause, it could be autoimmune hemolytic anemia. If the red blood cells are more immature than they should be ... then ask you doctor to order a manual instead of a computer blood test results (for accurate liver and WBC counts) http://www.valdezlink.com/pages/liver.htm
Dr. Rea would be a good resource - Medications & reactions If someone has been poisoned or overexposed to too much of some kind of chemical ... then adding more chemicals (even in medications)can be harmful. They add to one's chemical load Are researchers talking to toxicologists about CFIDS or 'gulf war syndrome' medication issues & reactions to same? http://www.valdezlink.com/inipol/pages/consultants.htm#rea
Have a Healthy Baby One little considered, but most likely very prevalent cause of infertility in men is an autoimmune one: spontaneous infertility in which the immune system attacks the sperm http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/have-a-healthy-baby/
Seals & other Mammals - N - the environment In 1989 there was an effort to save the sea otters and baby seals who were harmed by the oil spilled from the Exxon Valdez. Many volunteers may have paid for their graciousness with their lives. Some information on what happened to the workers including the November 5k, 2001 LA Times article. Some thoughts on loss of 80% of the herring of Prince William Sound in Alaska in 1993 may have been from the cleanup chemicals used. Thoughts in general on the demise of the sea mammals & written comments 10-15--03 to the committee asking for public input ... how to clean up oil spills in the future. Comments also to the Exxon Valdez oil spill Trustee Council on 3-6--06 http://groups.yahoo.com/group/seals-n-environment/
