Word has just arrived that Philadelphia's venerable Tug JUPITER has entered at
the Reedy Point end of Chesapeake & Delaware Canal at about 5:30 p.m. this
evening enroute to General Ship Repair the truing of her wheel and other work.
She is expected in Baltimore sometime around midnight.
JUPITER is part of the fleet associated with the Philadelphia Ship Preservation
Guild is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and
operation of historic vessels.
JUPITER was recently in Baltimore the weekend of July 18-19, joining the
festivities in celebration of the 50th launch anniversary for the world's first
nuclear-powered merchant ship, the N/S SAVANNAH. SAVANNAH was built in Camden,
NJ and when launched in 1959, Jupiter was one the tugboats on the scene in the
Delaware River that day. SAVANNAH is currently berthed in Baltimore Harbor
alongside Pier 13, at Canton Marine Terminal.
JUPITER is expected to be at Baltimore for a week or two.
