Cars use GPS to draw maps for the drivers, units that can be
purchsed by the man on the street and installed. GLP units are
COMMON these days, and in use.
Tom says 'The first civilian GPS products did not appear until the
mid 1980's and GPS products for the general aviation community did
not start appearing until the early 1990's.'
SO, they do EXIST, for PLANES!
Tom says 'Certified for non-precision approach units did not appear
until the mid 1990's.'
SO, they have been certified for USE IN PLANES.
Tom says 'GPS and civilian aviation have a very short history in
relative terms.'
SO, they are IN USE, again.
BECAUSE: compasses have only begun to become unrealiable, recently.
Seems in Tom's own words, HE has misstated.
