I am a doctoral student in Harvard's music department. As a master's student, I
completed a thesis in ethnomusicology entitled "Norovbanzad's Legacy:
Contemporary Concert Long Song in Mongolia" for which I completed two months of
fieldwork in Mongolia. I am very interested in Mongolian culture as a whole,
particularly artistic culture.
Currently, I am taking a course offered by Dr. Schoeberlein called "Culture Wars
in Eurasia." In the course, we are to complete a small ethnographic project by
communicating with people currently living in or from Eurasia via internet,
telephone, in person, etc
I contacted Ellen over at the Yenching library, and she recommended that I talk
to you about possible contacts in Mongolia or in the United States for my
project. I have some contacts as well from my previous field work, but I
really would like to branch out with new topics and become acquainted with new
people. My idea is to learn about Mongolians' attitudes and perceptions of
last year's 800th anniversary of the Mongolian State celebrations.
Would you have time to go out to coffee to discuss this project and/or would you
be willing to give me approximately 30 minutes of your time for an interview
either by phone, email, or in person?
Please feel free to respond by email or by my cell phone number listed below
Thanks for your time,
Gabrielle Giron
