It's here at last!!! You don't have to be Jewish to enjoy my new book, Jewish Themes in Star Trek, a well-researched and reader-friendly journey into Jewish themes, actors, in-jokes, etc. in Trekdom. Dedicated to the memory of Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli astronaut in space, and his six crewmates, who perished aboard the space shuttle Columbia in February 2003.
Inspired by a class I once taught at the Minneapolis Talmud Torah, the book explores such things as: The Jewish origin of the Vulcan salute (read excerpt) ; how Vulcan culture is based on rabbinical Judaism; Do the Romulans resemble modern Israelis? Is Worf really a Klingon version of a ba'al tshuvah? Plus: proof positive that the Ferengi were based on Yankee traders, not the Jews!
Where to get it: After 5 years of fruitless attempts to get a major publisher to take this, I am self-publishing the book on lulu.com - you can order it in hardcover, softcover or a download at my lulu homepage. You can see the cover art here -->>> that's nebula NGC1818 -- double chai!
Get a FREE desktop image of the Enterprise flying through this nebula at this link on Box.net -- my gift to you, feel free to pass it around. (The nebula is turned sideways on the wallpaper to fit your screen but hey, there's no "up" or "down" in space anyway!)
This group began as an announcement list for the book but, now that the book is out, I have changed it to a discussion board so you can all come and nitpick my ideas LOL -- or discuss anything related to Judaism and Star Trek! (Non-Jews are welcome, but be please respectful. Diverse opinions are welcome here, Jew-bashing is NOT! Irrelevant links will be deleted.)
Live long and prosper!
