Any rig can be a BBS with the correct internal or
external interface.

Speed is related to the rig design and tap (e.g.
mic connector, digital port, special tap location),
as well as the interface device.

So, a BBS was normally software running on a computer with a data
connection via phone lines or now the internet... A T3-135 isn't a
computer, a phone line, internet, nor software.

You probably want to run a PBBS, which is a packet BBS, again software
running on a computer, but using a TNC and radio as the connection
method.

Not any rig can be a BBS, but you can use just about any radio as the
RF portion of a PBBS. The on air speed is dependent upon the TNC that
you use, as it is the device that converts the serial data from the
computer to the on air protocol and back again.

There is a difference between "regular packet" used for PBBS, Winlink,
and other legacy packet modes versus the packet radio subset which is
APRS.

Be aware that some of the APRS TNCs were not able to handle the full
packets used by legacy packet applications.

I have an OT3m connected to a Davis Vantage Vue weather station that has the
APRS streaming weatherlink installed. I verified that if I set the OT3 to text
on port A it sends out the properly formatted weather info just fine, however,
it is a battery/solar operated location so I am using the power switch to turn
the radio on and off. My issue is that it turns the radio on, waits the proper
delay time, sends the packet, but then the radio does not turn off again unless
I cycle power to the OT3, any ideas? I can turn the radio on and off from the
tune tab in OTWIN so I know the switch is working.
Thanks

I'm posting this here in the hopes that it will make it's way up in the
searches. I recently purchased an OT3, GPS data cable, splitter, and got
my hands on a Nuvi 350.

I found the Nuvi 350 absolutely would not come up in FMI mode at all.
The culprit was the GPS software; it was some V2.62 or so.

So... if you have a Nuvi 350, get all the parts together to go into FMI,
program the OT3, and the GPS still doesn't go into Fleet mode...
consider updating the firmware. :)

The Nuvi was updated from V2.x to V5.x, and now goes into FMI just like
it should.

Now, on to the RF side of things....

I've had this same problem with the OT3m and a Nuvi 350. The freeze up only
happens during volunteer events with trackers that are normally not used daily
are connected to the end bike or runner. When events are not happening the OT3m
and Nuvi 350 work great. No one else runs the OT2m/OT3m and Nuvi 350 in the area
during events from what I've seen.

No. And in reality the driver is actually provided by Microsoft - it's
a standard USB CDC class driver, but Windows demands an .inf file to use it.

This is the T2 support list, but you mentioned a TT4. However,
you would be better off asking on the aprsisce32 support list.

Questions about APRSISCE/32 (I assume that's what you mean by APRSIS) are better asked in the APRSISCE Yahoo group.

A screen shot would be helpful as I'm not sure what you're seeing.  Or you can identify by number based on the screen layout in the Wiki at http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/doc:screen-elements

It may be that you have GPS enabled, but are not yet getting speed and heading information.  That will put -- and --- in the speed and heading fields 22 and 21 respectively.  17 should also say "No Fix"?

No. IIRC the Alinco's "menu" isn't much more sophisticated than TNC power control.

If you hook up a Nuvi with an FMI cable, you can send most configuration commands directly from the Nuvi's messaging interface to the locally connected T3-135.  You can also, assuming you've configured it properly, send some configuration commands via APRS message to Tracker2/3 family devices with the CMD prefix.

I had same issue with OT3m but I set port A to text on purpose to use with a
weather station, only way I found to recover it was to use a standard serial
connection, not the USB, and when OTWIN says to reset tracker I power cycle it
twice and then it will connect. Have to use the serial connection because there
is no way to cycle power w/ USB since it is supplying the power to the tracker.
Hope that gets corrected sometime but hope that helps.

Can the T3-135 be convinced to become relatively stupid and simply act as a bridge from usb serial to the internal rxd/txd lines that the dr-135 presents on CN107?  I have a hunch that other radio functions may be controllable over serial but I need to monitor the serial bus of the radio to sniff the data being passed.

Scott et al,

Thanks - that is what I wanted to know. So, I can use the config program with
USB cable to set the TNC's parameters, and the TNC will be powered by the USB
cable during programming before insertion into the radio. Do I have this right?

This is similar to the DSTAR boards I use. Please confirm I need only a USB
cable to setup the board before insertion (i.e. no null adaptors, etc).

Alinco's architecture with the DB9 etc is something I'm not familiar with hence
the question. This will be my first purchase of an Argent board and is intended
for a second permanent digi in Florida. I've already started looking for site
#3, so hoping this install goes smoothly.

I'll look for your response. Could not find the T3 135 Manual which probably
answers my questions.

Thanks, Chris KB1RXA
