I think I recall something about KISS mode on the T2 running only at 4800
bps, so you probably should have something like:

1 N1VLV-8 4800 255 2 145.010 MHz (1200 bps)

No, KISS will work at any baud rate now.  You just need to make sure you set it.  If you're running the new firmware, set AMODE KISS and ABAUD 9600 to run KISS at 9600 on the primary port.

Yeah.  The bootloader now checks the config bytes to see if it needs to invert the output or not.

The firmware is posted.  You may need to wire up an adapter to handle the weird signaling requirements of the station - set the output voltage jumper on the T2 to 5 volts, and then make the following connections:

T2 -- Station

2 -- 2
3 -- 3
4 -- 7
5 -- 4 and 5

The reason for the weird wiring is that (at least for the station I have, and the ones I've read about) the station itself doesn't generate any RS-232 voltage levels.  Not surprising, since it has to run for months on 3 AA batteries.  It just steals the voltages it needs from the host, so pin 4 has to be low and pin 7 has to be high.

Once that's done, just set the port to WS2300 mode and it should start working after a minute.

Make sure you've got the right baud rate.  It was working last time I checked.  C0 FE C0 should cause a reset, without exiting KISS mode.  See if it at least receives that one.

Oh, wait, I found it.  Yeah, I screwed up.  Gotta figure out how I'm going to fix that one.  Looks like for now you've either got to send the command remotely, or reload from defaults.  Not sure how I missed that.

The new bootloader is in the 'web' option download menu.  Load the updater, quit, and you should see the LED flash and then stay green.  Start up the config program again and load in the regular .s19 file.  Sorry it's a little clunky, but hopefully this will be the last update to the bootloader for awhile.

Scott,

I'm seeing some similar behavior. I have the T2 (proto C) connected
to a Peet WX station and I have Xmit set to every 5 minutes (300
seconds). It transmits initially, then every once in a while but not
5 minutes. I haven't figured out yet if it is related to the Peet
mode or something else. Im testing that now.

I also notice that the LED is flashing orange every now and then.
I'm not sure what that means.

Good news is that the humidity is being correctly reported now in
Peet mode (it's reporting zero when you don't have a humidity sensor
attached).

Sorry for the delay. I do have valid gps blinks. Have not tried the txnofix. It's doing to many different things now like using Mycall from config 2 without the jumper on J7, interval set to 1800 sec and transmitting every 120 sec. Gonna do a bin reload and see if that helps.

Ok, so with all that being said, I'm assuming my best option is to flash it using the windows utility? Where can I get the files?

On 11/28/06, Scott Miller <scott@...> wrote:

The xmodem-formatted firmware is a little out of date - I'll update it next time I put out a stable build.  There have been some compatibility problems reported with the upload; I've tested it under Minicom and sz from the command line in Linux, and using SecureCRT from Windows without any problem, but there may be problems with other platforms.

Also, as of yet there's no way to skip blocks, so the configuration space always gets overwritten during an xmodem firmware upgrade.  That might not be entirely a bad thing, but it's inconvenient.

Oh yeah, there's an undocumented feature in the Windows config program - right-click on the title bar and you can save the whole flash image to a file suitable for xmodem uploads.  It requires a Windows box, but it does let you prepare images for upload under Linux.

I just posted an update that should fix the issues identified today. Fixed
position mode seems to be working now, and you can exit from KISS mode.
Just keep in mind that it'll cause BOTH ports to exit KISS mode if you have
them both set that way.

Also, to simplify exiting from KISS mode, you can just hit ctrl-c twice in a
row. For Garmin mode, just hit enter a few times. In both cases, you have
to have the right baud rate selected in your terminal program.

Bearing and range output is now disabled, at least until I have a chance to
make it an option and verify that the bearing part works right. I'm not
sure that it's properly compensating for the convergence of the meridians.

I just uploaded another update - this one adds CTS/RTS flow control support.  Setting BMODE to FLOW (now the default) enables flow control in console and KISS modes.  This is especially useful if you're sending a list of config commands - you can now send it a bunch of commands at once without overflowing the buffer.

Got Xastir loaded?  Try running it in KISS TNC mode, see if it can talk to the T2 directly.  I'm no expert on Linux AX.25, and I had some difficulty myself getting it set up (with a KPC-3), but that was so long ago I've forgotten what I had to do.  I think my biggest problem was the custom kernel build, since I kept forgetting the oddball IDE controller and various other critical bits.

Forgot to mention this - the orange flash indicates a valid set of weather data.

I just updated the firmware yet again to fix a flow control glitch with the firmware upload and calibration functions.  Also, the 1-wire weather support is at least partially working.  The temperature and humidity seem to be ok, but I won't make any promises about wind direction and speed.

Good news is that the humidity is being correctly reported now in
Peet mode (it's reporting zero when you don't have a humidity sensor
attached).

One thing that jumped out at me was he specified the communications
between host and TNC have _no_ flow control.

For APRS use I don't see the harm, and it would help preserve limited
resources (buffer space) on a microcontroller without dropping data.

I guess hardware flow control assumes you haven't broken out the
second serial port to a separate connector?

Again, just guessing, but I would check to see if the rest of the
modules are loaded. I think you would need: crc_ccitt, ax25, and mkiss.
For your 2.4.33 kernel, obviously ax25 is already there.

I would think that you'd get an error if you ran kissattach without the
mkiss module loaded, but perhaps it doesn't. Look through
/var/log/messages when you run kissattach to see if any errors show up
there.

I've set up ax25/kiss networking with KPC-3+, Elcom's mUSB-TNT, and
TNC-X, on both SuSE 9 and Ubuntu 6.06, but it's been so long ago now
that I may have forgotten any troubles I ran into.

I have had a lot of luck scanning through /var/log/messages for clues
about kernel modules loading (especially for the BP-96 modem from Baycom)

I'll want to play with the new software as well, but first I have to
finish test and programming of my board. I've got it assembled but
haven't applied power yet. I did note the latest software build should
have the WX2300 support built-in and ready for test.

Right, you can only use it for flow control OR a second serial port.  I'll try adding XON/XOFF flow control later.  And you're right, the KISS spec says no flow control.  That doesn't mean it won't work on some platforms, though.  Depending on how the port is set up, some implementations may hold off when RTS is low even if they haven't specifically been coded that way.  I know in some programs I've written I had to explicitly disable CTS/RTS handshaking.

Scott,

This build fixed my problem with the Peet WX station as well. I'm
now getting data every every 5 minutes as programmed. I think the
orange flash on the LED went away - or at least I haven't noticed it.

I changed the logic on the orange blink - I need to put it back in the Peet Bros code.

Hi Scott,

I picked up a 2317 from Best Buy and now have it connected in place
of the Peet WX station.

I can't seem to get the 2317 to talk to the T2 on port B. I
unplugged the Peet and plugged in the 2317 in it's place. I was able
to get the 2317 to work with the La Crosse supplied software so I
know it works.

I manually set BBAUD 2400 and BMODE WS2300. When the T2 it
transmits, there is no weather data.

Any idea what may be going on? I noticed that the WXINFO command
doesn't return anything if that is a clue.
