Retrofest, CancerCare and Pitbull-Bear Management present the Lung
Cancer Retrofest Retrofest, in association with CancerCare and
Pitbull-Bear Management, is proud to present the Lung Cancer
Retrofest, featuring the music of the
Woodstock .
Retrofest specializes in non-profit charity productions featuring the
best
music from the Festivals of the late 60's-early 70's. On Saturday,
April
25, 2009 Retrofest will perform the music of Woodstock, just in
time for
the legendary Festival's 40th Anniversary. The event will take
place at
Who-Ville in Bethpage, Long Island, New York.
All proceeds will benefit lung cancer through CancerCare, Long
Island.
CancerCare is a national nonprofit organization that provides
free
professional support services to anyone affected by cancer,
and its
programs are provided by trained oncology social workers and are
completely
free of charge.
The event will be dedicated to the memory of Rosemary Doty, who passed
away
in December, 2006 after aggressive lung cancer took her life in only
eight
months. Her daughter, Terri Cron, is excited to have an event that not
only
memorializes her mother, but will help spread awareness of lung
cancer,
which takes more lives in the United States than breast or prostate
cancer.
"There is a stigma that if you have lung cancer, you brought it
upon
yourself because you smoked," says Cron. "But you don't have to be a
smoker
to get lung cancer, and my goal is not only to make people aware
of how
common this cancer is, but to let sufferers and their families know
there
is support and resources available that can help them cope."
CancerCare is proud to lend their support to this event, and they have
held
a Lung Cancer Walk every November. "We are very pleased that
CancerCare has
decided to come aboard and lend their name and support to this event,"
says
Lynn Jordan of Pitbull-Bear Management. "Allan Spielman has been
doing
Retrofests for several charities and his vision and talent, along
with
CancerCare's dedication, Pitbull-Bear Management's commitment to
quality
events and Terri's devotion makes for a formidable team. We believe
that
this event will show that not only does Long Island have an
incredible
depth of talent, but that a live, local music event can be a
vehicle for
many great things. The crowd gets musical performances that stay
true to
the original songs, sponsors and vendors get inexpensive exposure,
and,
most importantly, the charity receives 100% of the door for their
cause.
Everyone involved wins!"
