My husband's ancestors, Richard Joseph HUMPHREYS
and Ann WATSON came to South Africa in 1826. thye had
several older children with them and a daughter, Sarah
Hope HUMPHREYS was born on the ship Hope, 10 Aug 1826.
William HUMPHREYS was born in 1831 in Grahamstown, Cape
Colony.
Another son, our ancestor, Joseph Richard HUMPHREYS, born
1820 in London, married Apr 1842 in Grahamstown to
Charlotte E.POULTON, dau of John POULTON and Ann HEATH.
They had 9 children, the 8th being born on the ocean
emigrating to America, and the last born in Iowa crossing
the plains to Utah as they had joined the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in South Africa.
I
have lots of info on their descendants and some of
their ancestry, but lack any info on they stay in South
Africa. Would like some help on how to proceed. Would
like to make contact with any relatives still in South
Africa.
Pat and Douglas Lowe, Woodbury Minnesota

I am trying to establish the parents of my "ouma"
Susara Maryna Delport who married Willem Benjamin
Krynauw. She was born in either Cape Town or Potchefstroom
but I have been unable to trace that missing link
that would allow for me to have the "rest of the
family" in line through to Jacques and Sara (previously
Vitout) DeLaPorte

I have very little information about my
ancestor's time in South Africa. But, from what I have
heard, this is where my last name was "born". As the
stories go (unfortunately the tellers have all passed
away), either the name Tyrell-Smith was formed for
social reasons or there were too many Smiths (hard to
believe!) and first and last names were combined: Tyrell
Smith became Tyrell Tyrell-Smith.
This all happened
four or five generations ago.
Any clues?
Thank
you.
Patrick Tyrell-Smith
Phoenix, Arizona, USA

I was at SACSin Cape Town and was taught
geography by a Geof Dennis. He was a short man with a
wonderful skill at teaching and also the ability to shout
very loudly. I left school in 1962 so I do not know if
he is still alive. The South African College School
in CT might be able to help you. I also recall that
he lived in Springbok Rd in Green Point. Good Luck

I am currently doing research on both sides of my
family. If any one can help with details of the Bossenger
family ie the descendants and antecedants of Charles
Jacobus B, John Johannes B and Peter Frederick B who date
from the mid 1800s or the descendants and antecedants
of Arthur Herbert Nowell who came to this country in
+- 1895 and married a Gertrude Ethel Vine in Cape
Town I will be grateful.

My grandmother, Sarah Ann Jackson, was born in
Bloemfontein on January 16, 1909. Her birth father, (1st name
unknown) Jackson married Emmey Fredericka (last name
unknown and born abt. 1883). They had four children -
John Abraham, George Smith, Eileen Wilhelmina and
Sarah Ann between abt. 1903 and 1909. Emmey's husband
left her and she remarried Charles Avery Nord. The
family emigrated to Canada in 1915. Charles or "Chas"
Nord was born Karl Arvid Nilsson Nord in Sweden.
Charlie was living in Canada when he enlisted in the
Canadian Contingent of the South African Constabulary.
During the SA War he was stationed in Bloemfontein. I
believe it is here that he must have met and married
Emmey. Emmey's second son, George, was born in
Kimberley.
On April 1, 2000 I wrote a letter to the Registrar
of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Pretoria, but as
yet have not heard anything. As I continue to be
patient, I was wondering if any other members might know
something of this family or could offer me any suggestions.
Thank you.
Debbie Wilson
Edmonton,

This is a real long shot, but I am hoping someone
can help me. The only information I have is from my
grandfsther's WW1 Asstestation Papers, when he joined the
Canadian Army in 1915. His name was Sidney Stanley
LEIGHTON and he states that his next of kin was Ben
LEIGHTON living at 78 Market St., Boksburg, Transvaal,
S.A. This was in Feb. 1915. I have no idea if this was
his father, brother or what. Any information or any
leads to where I might find information would be really
appreciated.
Sandra

Hope this club gets lots of members.
Some of
my SARGINT kin are supposed to have gone to S
Africa, around 1900 - Bevan and Marion Sargint, son and
daughter of Thomas Dancer SARGINT, born 31 Mar 1869 in
Cahir, Tipperary, Ireland, and his wife Ethel Mathilda
LAWLOR (I have a vague feeling, no more, that Ethel was
a S African). Marion Sargint became Mrs CLARKE, and
had a son, Tony, according to my grandmother (my
notes made at the time during conversations with her,
thirty years ago).
Would love to connect with any
descendants. My gt grandmother was an older sister of Thomas
