Re: [phalanx] Visiting Greece

For classical remains i'd suggest :

- Athens
-- Acropolis
-- Acropolis new museum
-- National museum
-- Benakis museum
-- Cycladic museum
-- Byzantine museum
-- Agora
-- Roman agora
-- Keramikos
-- Remains of the acharnian road (on the square in front of the town council, under the ministry of finances)
-- Temple of Zeus
- Around Athens
-- Eleusis : can be reached by bus
-- Oropos (northern Attica, beautifull, a "small Epidauros") : can be reached by bus then taxi, about a full day trip if using public transports
-- Temple of Sounion : to do from 5PM by taking the coastal road bus to the temple, stay there until sundown or latest availlable bus, eventually eat in one of the small restaurant at the feet of the hill
-- Piraeus museum
-- Aphaia temple on Aegina island
-- Kolonos site on Aegina island
-- if enough time : other (much smaller, I've not visited them) sites on Aegina Island
- North of Athens, can be done in a day trip from the capital
-- Delphi
- North of Athens, better to have an hotel in the north
-- Thessaloniki
-- Verginae
-- Dodone
-- if possible, Appolonia (in Albania, next to the border)
- South of Athens, can be done in a day trip from the capital
-- Corinth (easy access by train and a short taxi trip)
-- Mycenae
-- Epidauros
- South of Athens, better to have an hotel in the Peloponnese
-- Sparta
-- Argos
-- Olympia
-- Messenae
-- Bassae

Hi all

I'm going to Greece in the next couple of months with my family and wanted to know if anybody had and tips about going to view any of the important sites, or going to see any site that might not be obvious.

I know Jack O'Conner said once here he was willing to give tips about visiting Greece.

What museums would you consider a must to see?
What places in Athens is also a must to see?

thanks
George T
