Description
"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner." This is the Jesus Prayer of Eastern Orthodox spirituality. It is an ancient prayer that was popularized by the book _The Way of a Pilgrim_ by Anonymous. The Pilgrim in the story is looking for a way to "pray constantly" as enjoined by the scriptures. He meets an Elder of the Orthodox church who teaches him the following:
"Sit alone in silence; bow your head and close your eyes; relax your breathing, and with your imagination look into your heart. And while inhaling say, 'Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me,' either softly with your lips or in your mind. Endeavor to fight distractions but be patient and peaceful and repeat this process frequently."
This group will explore the journey of those who adopt this prayer excercise: the difficulties, the joys, the roadblocks, the experiences, etc. of the practitioner. This group is open to members of all faiths who are actively and sincerely searching for a way to deepen their spirtual lives. Discussions of all Christian prayer and meditation techniques are welcome.
