So far 8 descendants of Glenurquhart MacKintoshs (any spelling) have had yDNA
tests. The group divides into two main families. One group has a record of
their ancestor moving into the glen from Badenoch in the mid-1700s. They also
have an account in their family lore of a claim on the chieftainship so
presumably they represent Clan MacKintosh in general. Others of us relate more
closely to west of Scotland clans and I hope that we can develop a bit more in
depth knowledge of our ancestral migration into the glen. With the frequency of
contact between the people of the glen and the Islesmen
it is not surprising to find people who originate from the west but bearing the
MacKintosh name is a little puzzling. I still hope to attract more Glenurquhart
MacKintosh descendants (any spelling)to the project.
If you note below that I was also trying to bridge a gap in the paper record of
my family history, I may have done that by establishing a 'distant'relationship
with two other descendants of Glenurquhart MacKintoshs.

gathering information on their MacKintosh (various spellings)families from the
Glen. We had discussed that they were probably all related from before the time
we had recorded births, marriages etc. Because I have a discontinuity in my
paper record I decided to offer to pay for DNA testing. I have not yet located
a male descendant of my GGGrandfather's brothers. That would have been the
obvious person to ask but I am still searching for a contact.
