After I offered to read and review /The Measure of a
                     Man/ in exchange for a free copy from the author,
                     Alan Karmin, I expected to be bored by it.



                     As a lawyer known for her stance on false
                     allegations, I have been inundated with emails and
                     phone calls from fathers who had fought or were
                     fighting for their children in the halls of our
                     so-called justice system.  All the stories were
                     similar: no matter what evidence Dad had, no matter
                     what supporting witnesses he had, no matter what was
                     fair, no matter how revengeful or out of control or
                     just plain vindictive the mother of their children
                     was, no matter how often Dad proved that she lied to
                     the police, no matter how often she lied to the
                     court, he lost.  Mom got sole physical and, often,
                     sole legal custody.



                     I assumed Karmin's story would be more of the same,
                     for those stories accurately described the
                     inevitable course of a domestic relations action in
                     our neo-feminist society.



                     Much to my surprise, the book was a page-turner.  I
                     read it in two nonstop sessions, interrupted only
                     for Day 3 of the Republican National Convention.  I
                     was determined to hear Alaskan Governor Sarah
                     Palin's speech.  After listening to the Democratic
                     female pundits on the Larry King Show critiquing
                     Palin's speech, I shut the TV off and began the
                     second session.   Although exhausted, I continued
                     reading until I finished it at 5:15 a.m.



                     The book conveyed Karmin's emotion, thought,
                     development, and action.   It was like the Tom Mix
                     serial "Miracle Rider" I used to see as a child for
                     10 cents at the Magnet theatre.  Each Saturday, I
                     learned that neither Tom Mix nor Tony his "wonder
                     horse" was killed when they galloped off the top of
                     the cliff to avoid being trampled by a stampede of
                     buffalo or when they rode through a burning forest.
                     At the top of each chapter, Tom Mix and his faithful
                     horse appeared with renewed energy.  A classic
                     formula for novel-writing.



                     Karmin has talent.   He knows how to "show and
                     tell."  I am surprised a mainstream publisher did
                     not pick up his book for publication.  Maybe he
                     never tried to interest a mainstream publisher in
                     his book.  I don't know, but what we have here is a
                     true memoir of the terrifying nightmare of trusting
                     in a family-court judge to dispense justice instead
                     of perverting it.

I have a few questions that have arisen out of FM's press release the
other day.
Interleaving my comments and observations will be easiest for me.  I
want to know the basis of FM's position on the following issues.

         She is a proponent of teaching creationism in schools;

I, like FM, oppose creationism, but I understand she is in favor of
teaching both creationism and evolution.  A compromise.


         a global warming skeptic, and an opponent on key environmental
         issues, such as protecting the polar bear in Alaska and is for
         oil and natural gas drilling in the Artic National Wildlife
         Refuge (ANWR).

I think the facts are in her favor.

     * ANWR = Alaskan National Wildlife Reserve
     * ANWR = 19 million acres
     * Coastal plain = 1.5 million acres or 8 percent of ANWR
     * 17,5 million acres or 92 percent of ANWR will remain permanently
       closed to development
     * Portion wanted for oil frilling - 2000 acres OR less than half of
       1 percent of the ANWR
     * 20 years ago 3000 animals in ANWR
     * today 30,000 animals in ANWR
     * estimated oil drilling will provide 250,000 to 735,000 jobs


I had signed several petitions for the various Wildlife organizations.
Now that I reviewed the figures, I question my own, perhaps ignorant, acts.

So charges of Palin's anti-environmentalist stance are exaggerated and
perhaps dishonest.


         Sarah Palin stands with John McCain, who is opposed to
         affirmative action for women in public employment, public
         education and public contracting, is opposed to legislation
         fighting wage discrimination for women (the Lilly Ledbetter Fair
         Pay Act),

I have seen nothing about this.  I was an employment-discrimination
lawyer (for plaintiffs) and member of Mass. chapter of NELA for many
years, so it should tell you where I stand.  Please let me know the
source of FM's assertion.


         is opposed to the Violence Against Women Act, authored by
         Senator Joe Biden, and has a /zero rating/ with women's rights
         groups.

I, too, am opposed to VAWA.  It circumvents due process and equal
protection.  And Biden brags about VAWA as his primary accomplishment.
He, in effect, is the granddaddy of VAWA, and VAWA is responsible partly
for the Holocaust of the American family.  I was quite distressed last
week to learn of Obama's choice of Biden for a running mate.

             now-deceased daughter, Yolanda Torres, diagnoses of
             "anxiety," "bipolar," “conduct disorder,” “oppositional

             indoctrinated, hell-bent, not to render children behaved,
             attentive, literate, and educated, but to do the business of
             the psychiatric-pharmaceutical cartel, which is to see that
             as many as possible are labeled and drugged as if this was
             science and medicine and as if this addressed real diseases
             and assured something nebulous called  "mental health.”
             Elsewhere we are told **that Yolanda tried drug after
             drug—antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, antianxiety pills and
             lithium - some of which caused a weight gain of 50 pounds on
             her 5-foot frame**.  Surely this was not good for her either
             mentally or medically.  Eight months after visiting the
             statehouse on behalf of her "Yolanda's bill," Yolanda Torres
             committed suicide.  *

             *"Yolanda's bill" it is said, will **help train teachers,
             guidance counselors and nurses to better identify mental
             health needs in students, and through the state Department
             of Early Education and Care will provide behavioral health
             consultation services in early education and care programs
             to reach children with mental illness earlier.  How could
             they be more efficient at this pseudo-scientific “labeling”/
             “diagnosing” than they already are.   Will they be taught
             more coercive measures with which to bully sensible,
             enlightened parents who see through the scam, who understand
             that psychiatrists do not diagnose actual physical, organic
             abnormalities/diseases/disorders, who never have.    *

             *It is hard to imagine that more mental health observation,
             "diagnosis" and "treatment" is necessary in the schools of

             *In **1952 in the first edition of the **American
             Psychiatric Association’s** Diagnostic and Statistical
             Manual of Mental Disorders ** ** (DSM-I), homosexuality was
             classified as a mental disorder (with abnormality = disorder
             = disease).**   However in scientific information from
             researchers like Evelyn Hooker and Kinsey, the APA
             declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder with a vote
             of 58% (how it is done in psychiatry) of the membership
             supporting the measure.^  The current DSM contains a
             diagnosis of "persistent and marked distress about one’s
             sexual orientation."  Might this become law as so many of
             their disorders have allowing judges to court-order
             “chemical balancers” for their “chemical imbalances” or
             otherwise stigmatizing them and rolling back their civil
             rights. So much for psychiatry as medical science.  So much
             for the notion of psychiatric diseases.  There is no
             escaping the conclusion that the first and only real
             abnormality/disease/chemical imbalance is that resulting
             from the drug or drugs that invariably follow the fraudulent
             labeling—the greatest health care fraud of all time.  *

             *There can be no doubt whatsoever that Rebecca Riley of
             Hull, Massachusetts died, not of her fraudulent
             “diseases”/”disorders” but rather of the multiple
             psychiatric drugs with which she was poisoned (what even
             prescription drugging is called when no disease was present
             to begin with).  Rebecca’s parents sit in jail to this day
             charged with her murder when, in fact, noted Harvard
             psychiatrists that advance the for-profit fiction that
             pediatric/childhood bipolar disorder is a bona fide disease,
             needing/requiring psychotropic drug treatment are the ones
             at fault.   *

             *When teachers themselves are forbidden from making
             diagnoses and suggesting drugs what they do instead is to
             urge, suggest, insist, that the parents of pupils they have
             "diagnosed," go to a physician or mental health professional
             which accomplishes the same thing--that the child is
             diagnosed and medicated, as surely as if the teacher had
             been the one making the diagnosis and referring the child
             and family to a physician who they know will prescribe the
             needed "chemical balancers"--drugs.  Either way the epidemic
             of mental disorders, diseases, grows and with it
             prescriptions for psychiatric drugs--intoxicants, poisons,
             all detectible in the blood, body and brain--the first
             abnormality/disease the pupil, now a patient actually has.  *

             *In fact, the parents and family should decide if and when
             to take their children to a physician or to any kind of a
             health care professional with educators speaking their piece
             on the issue, but nothing more.  *

             *Today the “mental health” indoctrinated teacher corps
             requires and coerces until their will and the collective
             will of the therapeutic/mental health school is done.  This
             bill is just what educators and the "mental health" industry
             want.  It will lead to more diagnoses, more children
             "treated" and to more deaths such as this one and that of
             Rebecca Riley.*

devices. Downtown office buildings have hired extra security and
rehearsed evacuation plans. The Secret Service established 18 working
groups in Denver, with assignments to coordinate air security, crisis
management and more.

Aug 2008 A tight security net enveloped Denver as the city braced Sunday
for the arrival of tens of thousands of supporters and protestors for
the Democratic Party's political extravaganza. Some 45,000 people are
expected in the city, nestled on the edge of the Rocky Mountains, with
an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 police and security personnel to be deployed
for the four-day convention which opens Monday. But the security plans
for the party convention coordinated by the secret service along with
some 55 other agencies including the FBI and the US military have been
denounced by civil rights groups as draconian and over-arching.
