We have received a couple of questions about the status of Computer Dispatcher
pro. As everyone is aware, we shipped Computer Dispatcher ® pro as a
evaluation product since 2000.

One of the issues we have been working around is the need for windows XP run
time to support CDPRO. With Microsoft's release of Windows 7, there will be an
XP compatibility virtual operation. We are planning to release CDPRO Generation
5 to run with Windows 7. The software will be released as an installed
configuration in a virtual disk format, compatible with Microsoft Windows 7.

KAMRR will rlease this product later this year and those customers who have
purchased CDPRO in the past, will be offered a courtesy upgrade to KAMRR version
when it is released.

Our vision and goal has been to provide our users with the best model railroad
software available. We will keep you posted with the latest events.

Hello everyone

We launched our new website at www.traintools.com this past weekend. We will be
adding additional websites and our new on-line customer portal in the next few
months. We have a lot of new products that we will be bringing out this year.
We are excited!

During the past year we were involved in a development project as an ISV for a
new software program that was to be launched in July 2009 at the NMRA train
show. However, this project has been delayed and what we have decided to
launched the KAMRR, Inc. portion of the software.

We will be posting additional information to the list in the next few months.
When we launch our new products, we will have a special offer for KAM Industries
customers, so you can upgrade to our new Train Tools - Generation 5! We look
forward to seeing you!.

Our philosophy has always been to do what is right for our customers and in
doing so our customers will support us. Thank you for all of the support these
past years.

The current software that was shipped by KAM (train tools version 4) is still
available from our dealers as it has been since Aug last year. So customers
have been able to purchase software without a problem.

Our 5th generation software will be available in May. At that time we will
announced the new products and the upgrades to the existing product.

Train Tools 5 was a new development effort that we started last Jan 2008. The
software alpha version was released to a limited number in May 2008 for testing.
Along with this, we have released a new external protocol specification called
Train_XML. We have come a long ways since then.

Train_XML is a derivative work of KAM's original trainserver API. The API was
first shipped in KAM's client server product in 1997. Others claimed that they
invented it in 2002, not sure how they traveled back in time in 1997 -- maybe it
is because they read our API specification in the fall of 2000. Anyway, it must
be a Berkley thing. Time lines do not lie, and 1997 comes before 2002. All I
know is that we did what we said we did back in July 1997 and we have been
moving forward ever since.

I will post new information as it comes available. Stay tune.

Train Tools – 5th Generation is coming down the track.

Hi all

Sorry for the long delay in posting to the list.

I also want to thank all of our friends and customer for the support that they
have given us.

We will be sending out an email blast to our newsgroup next week.

In the next couple of weeks, our websites will be going on line.

Next week..

End of March
www.kamind.com   (portal)
www.trainxml.com
www.decodercommander.com (and the dcc commander database)

We made a major IT transition in jan, that just took longer to complete...

One of the issues that we had to address, was spam issue. We were receveiving
up to 40K emails a day (500K per month!) to our web farm. For some reason, this
seem to happen after a few key events. Our spam problem started in April 2006.

However, since we made the change in our IT infrastructure, and with our site
being off line, our spam level has dropped to reasonable levels 1 - 2K per pay.
I'm not sure why the level dropped, but I could guess that it was because of the
cyberbullying law that when into effect last year.

I must admit that 20k - 30K of spam per month is much better then >500k per
month. I think eveyrone will agree about that.

Anyway, as they say, past is prolog... so with our new infrastructure changes,
we changed a lot of stuff for our customers.
1. Put in place safeguards to address the spam issues
2. Tighten net security to reduce the frontal email attacks
3. Improve performance of our network and user web access
4. SSL access to customers web sites and download areas
5. Improved web site (still under development)
6. Improved firewalls and aggressive network packet filters

As we move forward, you will see a lot of changes in KAM's products as we roll
out traintools version 5. Our new release will be short of some comamnd station
drivers, decoders (etc), but we will add the missign links over the next few
months...and yes, we still plan to release the updated Computer Dispatcher Pro.

In all of our trial and tribulations, Our mission is still the same,
- provide great model railroad products to our users at a reasonable price

Thanks again for all of your support and kind words over the past few months

Ecos is on our list to support (has been for a number of years when they
introduce teh new comamnd staion in 2006). Ecos has not made their
interface public, or provided KAM the interface protocol.

KAMs distributed XML interface can easily add support to eCOS. TrainXML
protocol was introduced in 2003 (based on our 1997 Client server DCOM
protocol) and extended in Feb 2008 . Train XML is the worlds first XML
distributed protocol for model trains .

This is the same problem that we have with NCEDCC USB interface. NCEDCC
has not provided KAM with the protocol to support the new USB interface.
We have attempted to purchase the unit directly from NCE, but NCE would
not fulfill our purchase request or respond to our request for
information.

When we contacted NCEDCC via email, they submitted kams email address to
AOL as SPAM (which we receive reports from AOL postmaster).

Our Interface to PI Engineerings RailDriver unit is to adjust for action
based on the device (throttel, brakes etc) characteristics. In our
configuration we assume that the user will use the raidlriver unit is to
set the throttle at the desired speed, then use the dynamic brakes to
control the speed of the loco.

This give the best overall control of the loco. We also added some
advance features so you could run the dynamic brakes and do quick speed
adjustments. After testing this configuration prior to our launch in 2004,
we felt that this approach gives you the best performance. For additional
performance, you use Engine Commander to adjust the speed curve of the
loco.

KAM has always been focused on the future to help drive innovation and
creativity. Our goal is to help drive innovation in the Model Railroad
community. We are looking forward to November with the next release of
Train Tools software and Train server 5.0. Our products are on track for

Has anyone tried programming the RailDriver brakes? Using RailDriver as
just a throttle seems silly. Some of my locomotives brake with F7 when

brake control could send F7 pulses with duty cycle proportional to brake
lever position.

Im just learning DCC so Im not sure how general explicit braking is.

All...
There has been some confusion about our warranty upgrade policy and
support for older products

Maintenance policy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From our site policy and procedures page
(http://www.trainpriority.com/aboutus/Contact.aspx)
 Software updates are a free download for one year after software or
maintenance plan purchase
This policy has been in place for a number of years.   Some customers wish
to order a cdrom out side of the maintenance period.  To order a CDROM,
simply purchase the cdrom demo, and use your serial number from the web
site.  New maintenance customers will recevie a CDROM on when they
purchase a maintenance agreement.
If your software has not been registered within 30 days or if you have not
purchase a maintenance plan, your web site serial number may not work with
the current software downloads and CDROMs demos.
Demo Software (operation period)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

All of KAM trial software cease to function (times out) with in a random
period of months after the release has been posted. KAM also changes
serial numbers and encryption coding on a random basis, so old serial
numbers will not work with new product. Likewise new serial numbers will
not work with old products.

Older Product support
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you have older version of Train Tools software on your system, you will
need to uninstall the old version of software before you installthe new
version.  New version will not work with a old versions of Train Tools.
This has been part of our installer design for a number of years and is
also part of the Train_XML distributed protocol which we publsihed in
2003.
As an example, you cannot purchase a maintenance subscription (for build
400), receive a new serial number for their registered  products, and use
that serial number on an older release such as build 302 that was avaiable
in 2006.  The user will need to uninstall all old software, reboot then
install build 400.
Also we change serial number encryption handshake in our software so older
version of applications will not work on newer releases.   This is by
design.
Maintenance plans are available for $29 per year and cover all products
registered adn may be purchased fromm our web site.
Tools release 5 is on track for beta in November!  We are very pleased
with the changes in the software.  We have included many new features and
capabilities that have never been seen in any other model railroad
software product - both in the US and overseas.  The new KAM technology
will far exceeds what is in the current products both open source (who
lack vision and continues to copy others and claim it as their own) and
any commercial model railroad software company (assuming any that are left
who has not been forced out of business by the open source community).
We have been making excellent progress with our next generation Train XML.
protocol and companion products.  Train XML was invented by KAM to handle
model railroad distributed processing.  As many are aware KAM pioneer
distributed processing model train software in 1997.  KAM was the first in
the world to demonstrate and sell distributed model railroad software
programs.
However, even with this world event, we are continually puzzled why some
organizations that only existed as early as 2001 have claimed ownership of
what KAM demonstrated and sold in 1997.
KAMs has always been focused on the future to help drive innovation and
creativity.  Our goal is to help drive innovation in the Model Railroad
community.   We are looking forward to November with the next release of
Train Tools software and Train server 5.0.  Our products are on track for
beta in Nov 2008.  All developer informaion will be published on our
trainxml web site.
KAM proud producers of distrbuted Model Railroad software for 11 years.
At one time I had my layout operational using Windows XP, Rail Driver,
LocoBuffer-II with a serial to USB adapter & Train Tools.  I bought a new
laptop running windows xp home pro and I have been trying to reestablish
operation of my layout for several months with no success.  I have the
Rail Driver software for Trainz Classic and the drivers from the manf. cd
installed.  The rail driver operates the simulation in trainz perfectly
and I receive direction and speed indication on the rail driver when I try
to operate the layout.  I have tried the following settings in train
manager:
Digitrax ms100 at 19200& Digitrax USB at 57600 (Ive changed the locobuffer
switch 1 to match speed), by the way my logical port is 1 and my physical
port is 4.  Ive thought about purchasing a Digitrax PR3 as anoption since
my command station is a digitrax super chief.  You may recall that you
provided several updates in anticipation of helping me thru my dilema,
Thank You, I started this latest attept as a result of receiving your
latest cd train tools 4.30.400.  Everything seems to get to my laptop, but
not to my layout, would you recommend changing the interface to a PR3? If
not, any suggestions? installed the
Starting yesterday, my Engine Commander software stopped working.
Specifically, when I click the icon, I get the KAM Industries splash
screen, which then fades out like it should, but the application window
does not appear.  However, it does show up in the task bar, and when I
right-click, I only have the options to "Move", "Minimize", or "Restore".
It is almost like the window is off of the screen.
