The Fan is an 85-block area in western Richmond that got its name for the way the streets fan out west from N. Belvidere Street to Boulevard between Broad and Main streets. Viginia Commonwealth University's Monroe Park Campus is on the eastern end. The Fan is one of the longest stretches of Victorian architecture in the United States. Most of the homes in the Fan were built between the Civil War and the 1920s. Development was pushed by Richmond's streetcar system than ran the length of the area. Landmarks include Monument Avenue and the Landmark Theater.
