Thau Yong Amateur Musical Association is established since August 1931, lives by the mission statement to glorify the beauty and intricacies of Teochew music to nurture each soul with sincerity, unity and harmony in mind.

Built up by eighteen Teochew immigrants mad about music, they recognized the desire for artistic expression in the community, thus began her lifelong journey of promoting Teochew music and opera. In 1934, Thau Yong finally made her first lauded performance at Great World, carving her niche in the Teochew community. Beginning as a social artistic club, Thau Yong had played an active role in the arts and charity scene in Singapore (even before everybody were called a Singaporean) busy raising funds for fellow Singaporeans e.g. the British Chinese Army (WWII) the Nanyang University Campus fund.

In fact, the first complete Chinese Orchestra was formed by Thau Yong in May 1959 with a conductor and 40-odd members. Thau Yong presently has the last complete amateur Teochew music ensemble in Singapore and are actively searching for new members interested to learn and share the dying art of Teochew music, Han music and Teochew Opera in Singapore.
