Dear Badrul,

I am so sad to here that you and Salina were arrested and she got serious harassment during her detention.  We here in Thailand didn't know how much news on how many people from other countries were detained, we only knew that all total is about 900 peoples.  Being in Thailand, we only informed about 79 Thai -- 53 men and 25 women were arrested, which to us, we are the second biggest groups that were arrested after Korean. So I have been active on many activities related to action for the Thai groups.

When I read your mail I am sharing with you the pain and the suffering you, Salina, and Bengali's friends are facing in Hong Kong cell. I truly suggested that the story of what Salina had been facing should be publicized and complain to the public and many grassroots movement.

The movements and activists around the world should launch a campaign to "shame and blame" the Hong Kong security authorities for their aggressiveness and brutality.  Seriously, I strongly suggest that the stories of those facing harassment and being abused after they were arrested should be publicized to general public and we should mobilize action on that. Because if we let every global meeting allow police and securities authorities to use violence action against demonstrators on the name of "security", every meeting in the future will be more and more aggressive and violence.

However, for this mean time, I hope you make it back safety to Bangladesh! and have a real rest to get back your energy for future fight.

Big big hugs in the spirit of solidarity!

Lek....

Dear Shalmali,
Thank you so much for your hard-working job for our release. Having got release I called on our consulate office here in HK. They aprriciated you a lot for taking care of our matter. We are really grateful to you for all of this. It comes ture to me "a friend in need is a friend in deed"
We missed our flight on 19th as we got release late night on the same day. The next flight is on 23rd. That is why we are still stuck in HK. On other hand, the date of our visa will expire on 22nd December. So visa needs to be extended. There was also problem with seat reservation in the flight. However, it is solved at the intervention of the consulate. So we will fly tomorrow if things go as planed. But we feel very much our friends who are still in the prison and suffered a lot.
In the prison who were the Bengali lady named Salina Akter is my wife.Perhaps, you have herad from Chukki. She was released in the morning on 19th. She told the horrible story that she faced insdie the prison. It is completelty violation of human rights. First she was was kept in a place that was too hot for her to tolarate. While she tried to escape she was dragged to the cell that was too cold and her Sharee was seized forcefully and asked to remain in the cold naketly with only blanket provided by them. When she started bargaining they put threat to bring male police to open her last wears. Salina did not use the blanket protesting their misbehaviour and humiliation. The whole night she was not provided with food. She was jsut freezing. If the consulate would not rescue her in the morning she would have died due to cold. So, the brutality of female police here in HK is another name of abuses.
By the way, once again lots of thanks to you.
Warm greetings,
Badrul Alam
