Hey guys,
Hope you're having a good summer. The end is near for my art history
class, and I can't wait. Today I hand in a research paper on El
Greco, and then there are only 4 more classes to go! It's going to be
nice to sleep in an extra hour and go home at my regular time. I got
an A- on my mid-term, which was kind of a doozy...it was four
extended answer questions, including a 500 word essay. With the
completion of this current class, I just need four more classes to
finish first year at the art college. I really need to be gainfully
unemployed :-D
Anyway, on to the news...
Slashdot ran this article yesterday about the lack of a hero fo tech
writing, which seems a little odd to me…does the tech world need a
Lester Bangs or HST? http://slashdot.org/article.pl?

Nick Nolte will be narrating "Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride", a Starz
documentary that will air in November -

te_to_narrate_Thompson_documentary (if the URL gets truncated, you
might need to copy and paste).
Probably the best news is that Anita Thompson has been accepted at
Columbia University with plans to earn her bachelor's degree in
English.
Also some of you may have heard earlier this month that HST's long-
time assistant, Deborah Fuller, is suing his estate for unpaid wages.
There hasn't been anything new on this that I could find, but Summit
Daily News has a story which can be accessed by signing up for free -

So I finally checked my email this morning for the first time since
my class started in June and cleared out a bunch of spam. Cameron
wrote in to say that the September issue of Playboy will be
printing "a missive he fired off 25 years ago to artist Ralph
Steadman after Steadman complained about his son" (Playboy Aug 06). I
wonder if this is one of the articles that appeared in Generation of
Swine. Hmm!
Nick also sent me a link to Ralph Steadman's book, "The Joke's Over",
which can be pre-ordered. Apparently it's due in October.

I won't be able to look at any more mail for a while. Email stresses
me out like crazy because I can't read or reply to it all. I have
enough stress as-is with the final exam coming in a couple weeks.
BTW, if anyone out there enjoyed Plastic.com as much as I did and
misses it, it has been somewhat resurrected by the community at
http://www.treesandthings.com. I don't know if the old Plastic will
ever come back, but someone did suggest Newsvine as an alternative –
http://www.newsvine.com – it's a small community but has some nice
features.
Best,
Christine
