From Bill White

Wouldn't it be great if our next U.S. Senator represented all Texans and was a strong, effective voice for our state's future? If we had statewide leadership more interested in succeeding in reviving our economy than in seceding from the union?!

I am working hard to represent you as Texas' next U.S. Senator. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson has said that she intends to resign her Senate seat in circumstances creating a special election. Since the beginning of the year, when I announced that I would seek to represent our state in the U.S. Senate, many thousands of Texans from across the state have joined our team. I need your support.

As Houston's Mayor, I have cut crime rates and helped our region lead the nation in job growth, adding more jobs than sixteen states combined. We've organized programs to bring dropouts back to school and to improve air quality by fighting polluters. These efforts have led to re-election margins averaging over 88%.

Texans deserve better than the politics of sound bites. We need strong leaders who will offer real solutions. Don't you think our state needs a voice in Washington who can have influence with the nation's new leadership?

In Tarrant County we've made progress with the election of mainstream candidates including State Senator Wendy Davis and Representative Chris Turner. Please help us continue that progress.

I share your values and want to build a better future for our children and grandchildren. As Deputy Secretary of Energy in the Clinton Administration, I successfully advocated policies to promote energy efficiency and renewables and to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

My parents were both teachers, and my father is a disabled veteran who was able to go from the farm to college because of the G.I. Bill. I will fight for more educational opportunities for Texans and stand up for our veterans.

Help me organize from the grassroots up. Grassroots, neighbor-to-neighbor organization is the most important force in our nation's political history. Forty years ago I helped organize voter registration drives among minority voters in San Antonio and have continued to fight for social justice ever since. As chair of the Democratic Party of Texas, I helped organize one of the most successful state conventions ever in Fort Worth in 1996. I hope you can help me spread the word in Tarrant County and across the state.
