I've actually done it both ways you are asking about.  First I tried hemming the
towels (yes I actually used purchased towels) after I had divided it where I
wanted the insert to go. Then I attached the insert to both sides of the towel.
(I hope that made sense!).  The tatting was much narrower/thinner than the towel
and I did not like how it came out.   I still use the towel but did not "gift"
it to anyone.  The second try I liked a lot better and have given several as
gifts.  The second try I just put the tatting on top of the towel so the towel
was a backing for the tatting.  I like the look much better.  It supports the
tatting and does not leave a "thin" spot in the towel.  I know one that has been
in use now for almost 10 years and looks great still--granted it is only used
for clean hands!  No oil/grease/soil....Peace, Cynthia

suspect, read the posts but don't have anything to contribute if there isn't a

Hi guys,

I am now back. I know that it has been I while since the last time that
I posted. But I amrying to fix that. I am already planning projects
for next year, which include several Christmas pattern books that I got
from Barbara Foster( Handy Hands ). I try to keep a needle with me where
ever I go if it is possible. I just got from one of the tatting boards
and I cannot remember which one, a pattern for the breast cancer heart,
and the ribbon that I cannot wait to work on. I would like to possibly
hang them on the tree this year. I have always been looking for a really
good heart pattern. Now, I have found one. I thought that I would do
them in a 30 or 40 wt thread. I cannot find anything to really work with
here in B. R. as far as tatting cotton. I did however find that quilters
100% cotton works really well. I also found at least one or two places
on line that carry it on cones of about 1200 - 5000 yrds. I know that
will last me a good long time.

Teresa,

Hi, I'm here, but don't really have the time to do much posting.
I just do the reading and if a question is asked that I can answer
I'll just pop in. But most of the time I don't know any answers.
Right now I'm working on tatting to go around an onion shaped
glass Christmas ornament. Hope everyone has a Happy Holiday.

I have just uploaded my new Christmas pattern. This is the one I've been
working on for a few weeks now!! Intended as my 'giveaway' for this year.
Here's a little bit about it.

It's a four shuttle pattern with a lot of alligator joins. The two colours
interweave over and around each other. It looks a little complicated but it
really isn't. There's one VERY small split chain (which you can avoid!!!) and
the rest consists mainly of split rings. I hope I've written it down clearly
enough for most people to follow!!

Here's a picture of it - http://tinyurl.com/ycpzwn5

Hi Dear Tatters, First I apologize for doing this as a multiple post but I don't
know how else to get the help without a longer than practical time frame.

I have a relative newbie (she can tat some but is frustrated with her beginning
efforts)  in Hong Kong who needs help finding the equivalent thread sizes and
tatting threads that are within her budget...DMC costs US $7 a ball and not a
practical choice for her.  She tried soft embroidery floss (good price) but
can't get the tatting to look nice and crisp.  She has questions about the
differences between sizes in EU sizes and USA and how they compare to what she
can get.  Any suggestions?  I'll happily forward any info on to her.  I've asked
her permission to share her addy but it takes 24 hrs to get an answer due to the
time difference....

Also does anyone know a tatter in her area who would mentor her?

Thank You to all the awesome tatters willing to help out there in cyber tat
land.

Peace, Cynthia

To find tatting patterns I search the web, check on tatting blogs...I've been
known to even purchase patterns...I prefer to know the designer and get them
direct but if I know the designer and there is a book...if my budget will
stretch that far...of course I get the book.  If you were looking for exact
addys...sorry I don't have any on the top of my head but doing a search for
"free tatting patterns" nad or "tatting blogs" can be helpful.  Of course I
always give credit to the designer...I put a link right on the pattern so I know
