"As Ms. King was a bona fide Ministry agent, her past, like his, is obscure. About all that is known is that she was born in the late forties and attended a finishing school. Her tenure with Steed began in 1968, at the tail end of the "decade of the diabolical mastermind," and so she saw progressively less action as they moved into the seventies. The "high point" of her career, very likely, was a rumored space flight that put her and Steed briefly in orbit."

"King was a change from Steed's previous two partners, in that she was considerably younger (both Gale and Peel were depicted as being in their early 30s) and less sure of herself, although still capable with a gun or martial arts. She was shown to be more fallible than her predecessors. Also, unlike the previous partnerships that offered little more than exual tension, Tara King was openly shown to be attracted to Steed and a romantic relationship was hinted at on more than one occasion."
