NATIONAL TANGO DAY in BUENOS AIRES

Buenos Aires, December 12, 2003. Todo Tango Club.

Portenos enjoyed an amazing Tango Day with Tango events all around the city.
Different styles of "tangueros" found their own unique ways to pay tribute
to their passion. From traditional to modern, dancers and collectors and
even dancing in a Tango Rave, every enthusiast found a way to party.
The NATIONAL TANGO DAY remembers Carlos Gardel's birthday and is the perfect
excuse for the Tango Capital of the world to celebrate this classic genre.
113 years ago Carlitos was born and he was sure smiling in heaven yesterday
as portenos, young and old, danced "Por una cabeza" in the streets.

People flocked to the Carlos Gardel Museum in "el Abasto" where they ate a
big, delicious, 6 feet tall cake and remembered Gardel, a neighbour who live
there in the late twenties.
As part of the Young Tango Festival, modern tangueros visited a Tango themed
fashion display in Recoleta and even partied in a late night tango rave in
Corrientes and Suipacha.

Tango was king for a day in Buenos Aires and afficionados gathered close to
"el obelisco" that was used as a movie screen where images and movies of the
Tango legends where projected, including a moving homage to the great Tita
Merello.

Tango orchestras such as El Arranque and trio Los Interpretes played in the
street where hundreds of coupled danced milongas.

The celebration ended with amazing fireworks over Corrientes. The electronic
sounds of Bajofondo Tango Club started the "young" party of hundreds that
danced all night long.

2003 was a comeback year for Tango, that is proudly back in all the hearts
of the portenos.

"TODO TANGO CLUB": FOURTH COLLECTOR'S BOX IS SHIPPING

(Buenos Aires, Argentina) Two months after the successful third release of
the Todo Tango Club, Tango preservation efforts are better than ever with
the release of the fourth double CD box.

"Valsecitos de Canaro" and "Los Dificiles de Fresedo" are the new offerings
in the Club's collection that every other month remasters hard to find tango
material selected from the archives of the "Tango Collectors Association of
Buenos Aires". The Todo Tango Club preserves Tango's Heritage by
digitalizing the most comprehensive Tango collection in the world.

"Valsecitos de Canaro" is an emotional journey through Canaro's early
waltzes. A unique retrospective of this Tango subgenre, "Valsecitos" is a
delightful collection that will soon be a Club favorite.

The second CD in the box is something that experts around the world always
look for, but rarely find: "Los Dificiles de Fresedo", a selection taken
from the famous lost Red Label records that the record company removed from
the market when Fresedo suddenly switched labels and started recording for
Brunswick.
Both records are absolutely legendary and are now shipping to Todo Tango
Club members. A beautiful 8 page booklet with comprehensive information and
expert commentary is included in this special Deluxe Collector's box.

Starting in early 2003 to support the TodoTango.com site, the TODO TANGO
CLUB is quickly adding loyal Tango enthusiasts to its following.
The Club offers members a chance to help maintain TodoTango.com online and
preserve Tango masterpieces forever while it offers lots of benefits such as
a member certificate that acknowledges the contribution, 12 exclusive CDs a
year in deluxe collector's boxes, discounts of up to 50% at La Tienda (Todo
Tango's Gift shop) and more.

Tango lovers all over the world can help us save Tango by signing up to the
Todo Tango Club at http://www.todotangoclub.com for as little as US$ 12.50 a
month.

Visitors from all over the world can get free access to
http://www.todotango.com for the most comprehensive Tango resource online
available, featuring discographies, hundreds of tangos to listen to online,
lyrics, dancers, composers, sheet music, a Lunfardo dictionary, chronicles,
discussion groups and more.

If you go outside of Tokyo, it is quite hard to
find a place to tango. First, there aren't many places
outside of Tokyo and secondly, there aren't many
information about that.

If you visit Kyoto, it is
pretty much of it.
The second most populated area in
japan other than Tokyo is Kansai area. In Kansai area
there are a few places that you can dance tango. Kyoto
is most famous place for tourist and Osaka is most
populated city around there. There is only one tango bar
other than Tokyo, Tango Imperio. The owners are nice
tango dancers Lucia and Alvaro.
It is a small club
but has a live tango music on Friday. There are
monthly party in Osaka but I cannot find an information
in internet.

Several cities like Sapporo,
Fukuoka, Chiba, Nagoya are listed on Japanes tango link
(see the
last link in Links section) but I don't
have any
information about their activities.

Though I lived in Japan for two years, I couldn't
dance tango much. I lived a place called Sendai which
is 400km away from Tokyo.. If you are outside of
Tokyo, it is very hard to find a place to dance tango.

In Tokyo, you can dance tango almost everynight,
only if you can afford it. But don't expect too many
people during the weekdays. If you want to find a place
to dance in Tokyo, then just go to the egroup and
look for the tangotokyo. You can find this homepage in
the Link section.

There are many good dancers
and teacher. Some are from Argentina and there are
tango concerts and shows including locals and one from
BsAs, every month (sometimes every week). You can find
quite rare Tango Cds in the big CD stores,
too.

Several suggestions, if you are looking for nice mature,
cheap place to dance, go to the Suiyokai. Twice in a
week (usually Tue and Sat). Around 1000-2000 yen ($1
is about 100 yen) with free snacks. Starts early
evening and end before 9pm

I recommend Kenji and
Liliana's monthly milonga,
they really nice people and
dancers. It is Sunday
party for 5pm-9pm. 3000yen
includes free wines and
sancks with one or two
demonstration dances. You can find lots of great dancers in
Tokyo there.

If you are looking for younger
generations, you
can go Juan Guida's saturday milonga at
Rokpongi.
It is a nice cafe with beautiful floor. Also there
is a milonga at club Earth by Gontakids.

All
of these informations can be found in the tangotokyo
homepage in egroup.

The year 2000 is the year Koreans finally found
Argentine Tango. There were a few people who
danced
tango occasionally at a small latin bar
in Seoul
called MACONDO. But it is a salsa place
and they play
tango for 30 to 50 minutes only on
early evening of
Friday.

Still there is no tango bar in Korea. Not
even
regular Milonga. But you can find a couple of
places
to dance tango.

In Seoul, the captial city of
Korea, there is a
social club called "solo tango",
they are part
of world largest internet base
latindance club.
They have practica on Thursday and
Saturday
evening at there studio. Saturday is more like
a
social dance. Anyone who loves tango can go
there.

Bad news is, that studio is extremely
hard to
find. But don't worry, if you want to
go Seoul, you
can ask someone there.
Virutally almost all
koreans have e-mail address.
Also most of them has a
mobile phone, too.

This club is leaded by a
young couple.
Sun Kong Kim and Eung Joo Lee. They
visited Buenos
Aires and learned tango. Very nice
people.
The age range of members are from early 20 to
mid
30.

There is another teacher, who was the
only Korean
tango dancer is Buenos Aires tango
clubs, Mr. Kong. After staying and dancing tango 20
years in
BsAs, he came back to Korea and opend tango
class
this year. He have about 20 students (mixture
of
young and old people) but doesn't promote
dance
party yet. I heard they have small dance party
at a
pub, occasionally.

There is another city that
you can dance tango.
TaeJun (sometimes refered as
DaeJun) the center
of science research in Korea, has a
nice latin
bar AZUCAR. They usually dance salsa but
they
also dance tango. Wedensday is tango practica.
They
don't have milonga yet, since there aren't
many
people who dance tango and most of them
are still
beginners.

If you have plan to visit Korea, I can give
some
e-mail addresss to you.
