I have just been looking at the UK Border Agency
new guidelines and sponsorship requirements for
employing any tango teachers who do NOT have an
EU community passport.
There already have been several stories in the
teaching community of maestros being denied
access to the UK at the airport.
As there are considerable costs and bureaucratic
hoops to jump through which will only be
duplicated by other tango clubs who want to employ
argentine maestros, I have a proposal.
Tango UK, Southampton, invite other established tango
clubs to join a UK consortium solely for the purpose of:
(a) sharing the costs of facilitating the temporary
employment of argentine tango maestros in the UK and
(b) organising and associating a network of teaching
venues that MAY be able to offer employment for a
maestro's teaching tour, establishing and augmenting
a clear need for UK border access by a maestro.
I am still working my way through the pdf documents
about sponsorship, but it is already clear that the
licence £400 cost is going to make individual
applications prohibitive.
Let me know if you are interested.
