Save the Date:
   Oct 25-28  Fabian Salas and Carolina del Rivero in Atlanta for a series of
Argentine Tango workshops and milongas (tango parties).  Fabian is one of
the founders of CosmoTango and one of the stars of the movie, "The Tango
Lesson".  The joy of these weekends comes from dancing and meeting tango
dancers from all over the Southeast, in addition to learning from one of the
world's best.  Details to follow.

No more 1st Sunday Tango nights at Sanctuary.
   I think it has been about 8 years.  Manuel and I were at the first Tango
Night (actually it was a tango hour) and the last. Thanks to all who
attended and enjoyed this venue. The Sanctuary will still remain open as a
Salsa Club, but they are discontinuing the Tango Nights as we have known
them. We are grateful to Jorge and Alfonso for all the years they gave
people in Atlanta a place to dance the Argentine Tango.

Gabriela was born in the Rio de la Plata area, the birthplace of the tango.
Our original name was "Tango Rioplatense" in honor of this region.  We are
now called by our nickname, Tango Rio.  The tango, its traditions, culture,
music, art, fashion and literature are part of Gabriela's heritage.  She
brings this rich knowledge base to all of her classes and all of Tango Rio's
activities.  Whenever we go to a Tango Congress Gabriela is sought after,
not only by the best dancers, but by the professors as well.  The truth is
that Gabriela is one of the best tango teachers in the world.  Everyone who
studies with her improves their dance, including me.  We are very lucky to
have her here in Atlanta to share all of this with us.  We encourage you to
come on Tuesdays to take advantage of her wealth of knowledge and delightful

Atlanta's tango scene is changing.  When we first started teaching (at this
point we have been teaching tango longer than anyone in Atlanta) there were
very few opportunities to dance tango.  We offered class twice a week and
added the practica so people could learn more quickly and have a place to
enjoy the tango.  Now more people are having milongas.  Joe LoCurto just
announced plans to have a monthly milonga at his studio (April 19)and Rick &
Lynda are hosting  a milonga at the new Atlanta Ballroom Dance Center (April
20).  We are all about social dancing, so we thought, the practica no longer
needs to be weekly.  Let's go to the milongas!  We will continue to have a
special milonga once a month.  Generally one month will be at Tango Loft
(March 23) and the next month will be at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center (April
12). We have already scheduled Callanwolde through 2003 and M and I aren't
planning to move any time soon, so these venues seem reasonably secure-
which is amazing for Argentine Tango!  We will have an advanced class and
practica at the Decatur School of Ballet about once or twice a month.  This
gives you a chance to continue to advance your dancing and also to take
advantage of the practice time to ask questions, etc. Dancers of all levels
are welcome to come to the practicas. Right now we are thinking one Sat
afternoon and one Thursday night a month. We will still offer the level 1
and level 2 classes on Tuesday evenings and the Ga Tech Sunday classes
should be starting in June.  As always we will keep you informed!

Thursday, March 14,  9:00-10:00 Celebrate Shadi's birthday by coming to the
Decatur School of Ballet, 102 Church St.  Have some cake (I hear she loves
chocolate) and dance some tango.  There will be an intermediate/advanced
class of Argentine Tango preceding the festivities from 8:15-9:00.  This
will be the last Thursday class/practica until April.

Sunday, Feb 10 from 3:00 - 4:30 PM we will be teaching and reviewing the
basic skills of Argentine Tango at the Decatur School of Ballet.  This is a
great chance to practice your tango fundamentals or learn for the very first

All of the events for the Pablo Veron weekend will take place in the
Historic Trolley Barn.  While the name may not sound glamorous the place is
both comfotable and inspiring.  High ceilings, beautiful windows, large
gorgeous wood floor. There is also access to a large outdoor patio. I think
we will have a great time there and now everything is in the same location.
I will have photos for you shortly.  In the meantime

Hi everyone,

A lot of people have been asking about the class and practica that Gaby and
I usually teach at Georgia Tech.  We really appreciate your interest and
enthusiasm!  Unfortunately, we will not be offering the class this semester.
While there was a technical difficulty with the registration process, it may
be for the best for me, since I am doing a dissertation proposal and
traveling to a lot for conferences.  Those Sunday classes will probably
resume this summer and most certainly in the fall.

I hope that those of you who were planning on taking the GT classes will
join us at the Decatur School of Ballet on Tuesdays.  Ronda and Manuel will
still be teaching the Level I class at 8:15 and Gaby teaches the Level 2 at
9:30.  Intermediate level students, this includes those of you who studied
with us at Tech, can come for the whole evening (both classes and the 15
minutes of practice in between) for $10 per Tuesday.  This includes a
practice session on Thursdays from 9:00-9:45.  If you prefer to just come
for the practice session, it's $5.  More information on these classes is
available at the Tango Rio website (http://www.tango-rio.com).

There is a good chance there will be a couple of Sunday classes at Agnes
Scott in preparation for the milonga on Feb 15.  (By the way, the
opportunity to dance to live music is about a once a year opportunity and
you should definately attend if you can.)  Also, Gaby and I may teach some
intermediate/advanced classes and workshops this winter/spring.  More
details on that as we figure them out.  I hope all of you had a happy new
year and I look forward to seeing all of you at the Decatur classes.
