Computation of your final grade   Message List
Reply Message #138 of 138 | Next >
Dear All,

You must be wondering how your grades were computed. Here's a brief explanation
of how it was done.

Your final (´Á¥½) consists of a paper and a final exam. If you look at the excel
file uploaded in the files area (see 5-30) you will see that most of you passed
the final exam. This would not have been possible if I computed your written
exam plus your final paper. If I did, more than a dozen of you would not have
passed.

The whole class did not do well in the final written exam. I promised your
class that I will use the highest grade (either paper or exam) in computing for
your final exam and course grade, hence the written exam (where almost half of
the class failed) was computed as a quiz (Quiz 4). The grade for the paper was
then used for your final exam grade.

You will also see in the excel file that the computed average grade was also
lifted. In other words, I gave extra credit for many of you based either on
attendance (not sleeping though) or performance in class (quiz or
participation).

Please let me know if anyone is unsatisfied with this and I will be happy to
convert the grades using the old computation (final exam + paper), and quizes
(without the added points).

Looking at your raw scores I don't think no one in his/her decent mind would do
that. Do your math, check the raw scores for your quizes, and you know what I'm
talking about.
