Thanks Jenelle
I hadn't heard,  not sure will have time to use it but will try. Fred had a complete hip replacement in Aug. and when home again doing OK had a fall and smashed his hip. Big operation to repair and has been in hosp. now in rehab.  Will be home on Tuesday but will continue rehab as outpatient for at least another 8 weeks.  Haven't had time for anything much. Another relative at age 81 has been very ill and nearly died but is now being assessed for a return home with help.  So between the hospital visits and backup for the patients has been unbelievably hectic.  The cat thinks it is OK as he has been sleeping on the bed. All that will change on Tuesday when Fred returns home.
Hope you and yours are well.
Paddy

Maybe I am behind the times but I didn't realise wills indexes had been
further extended to 1935

Don't forget many of the later wills bundles include a death

hmmm Jenelle I daresay they might charge more for that :)
I imagine most wills wouldn't go beyond 8 pages.
I looked at a gg uncles probate box a few years ago ..papers were v fragile but a big box full..I didn't ask for them to be copied.
He died intestate and there was a big court case over the estate...mainly between the Qld and NSW gov to see who would administer it [and get the death duties] Amazing stuff in there.

Albert’s estate was ripped off non stop by lawyers, all documents, letters from the judge, he kept documents for everything, this will is more than 8 pages..try a couple of inches thick and that was cutting down as well..

Latest newsletter…interesting story on a cautionary tale.

Subject: Helping to find your cousins in Britain

It's FREE and SAFE to search for cousins around the world when you take part in the LostCousins project, still the only ACCURATE and CONFIDENTIAL way to find living relatives who share your ancestors! So it's strange that you  haven't entered more than 0 relatives on your My Ancestors page.

Your cousins would really appreciate you entering more data - right now their chances of finding you are minimal. So please, do them a favour!

My latest newsletter is online right now - and it's full of hints and tips that will help:

To read the newsletter just click the link below (or else, highlight it, copy it, then paste it into your browser).  Remember, you don't need your password as it's not necessary to log-in to read the newsletter.

http://lostcousins.com/newsletters/oct11news.htm

Alternatively, visit the LostCousins website where you'll find a link from the Latest News page.

You can always access the most recent newsletter using the following link (so you may wish to add it to your favourites):

http://lostcousins.com/newsletters/latest.htm

All of my newsletters since February 2009 are still online, and because each newsletter links to the one before, it's easy to catch up on any you've missed, or track down an article you'd like to re-read (soon there will be an online index - and then it will be even easier!).

By all means circulate my newsletter to friends or relatives who share your interest in family history - simply copy the first link above and paste it into your email. But why not invite them to join LostCousins so that they'll get a copy regularly?

Remember - there's no need to log-in to read the newsletter.

But if you want to log in to your LostCousins account, go to http://www.lostcousins.com then enter your email address and password.

I’ve put this question on both lists, do any listers know what was put in the care packages sent to soldiers in WW1, any country, not just home made products  like knitted socks, etc, I know tobacco, flour, writing paper, just if anyone knows what their ancestors sent, (a brand would be good too).  Its for that little project I’ve been working on for sime time now. Also the fund, like we had the Australian Comfort Fund, I just saw a poster for a Wales one.

Thank you.

I found this this morning
Faces of the First World War

As part of the IWM's First World War Centenary Programme, photographs from
the Museum's 'Bond of of Sacrifice' are being uploaded to the photo-sharing
site Flickr in a set called 'Faces of the First World War'.

On Armistice Day 11.11.11, IWM made 100 previously unseen portraits of
those who served in the First World War publically available for the first
time on Flickr Commons.

IWM will continue to upload photographs to Flickr Commons every weekday
until August 2014, the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World
War.

The Bond of Sacrifice is an archive of photographs collected by the IWM
between 1917 and 1920. All of the photos tell a story. The men shown in
them fought - and often died - for Britain and the Commonwealth during the
First World War.

I have the name of A..RICHMOND, A & S Hdrs (which I think stands for Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders) on a menu from a reunion dinner for POW’S at Holzminden.

I also have the name of 2nd Lieutenant AM SUTHERLAND,pow 13 May, 1917, 29 squadron.

I also have a photo of the 48th Highlanders (Officers), one of whom was in Holzminden..

Does anyone have any POW’s Officers of either Military, Navy or Flying corps in this prison camp.

Thanks.

Jenelle.

Dear Listers

This is our greatly expanded Gosford and Brisbane Water Pioneers
page

http://www.gosford.nsw.gov.au/library/local_history/population/index_html

Our fantastic volunteers have been very busy over recent months
extracting local information from a range of resources.

You can now access indexes to local coroner's inquests; R.H.
Creighton funeral records to 1951 (more to follow); and various
other never-before-published cemetery records from the Creighton
Collection.

In addition, a fascinating 1958 UBD Central Coast directory has
been added under "Census and Commercial Directory listings" on
the same page.

All are searchable pdf files. If you have difficulty with the
search facility, try saving the file to your own computer, then
the full search toolbar will appear.

These resources will be invaluable to local and family
historians.

In future we will be digitising (with permission), the Rev.
Alfred Glennie Journals and other works compiled by the late
Phillippe Tabuteau and the Gosford Local History Study Group.

These resources will be free for all to use.

NB These Gosford Local Study Group publications have been long
out of print

Glennies Hunter Valley journal has been on line via
http://www.huntervalleygenealogy.com/ for a long time

Another prime example of the info being there but access to it is
changing big time !
