Just realised you already posted that Graeme Challinor site.  Have had it for ages and just found it when going through some old disks looking for Byrne stuff.
Lots of cemeteries and full of pioneer families.
An area where they all gravitated to so they could scratch out a living.
James Byrne and Sarah Frankilin settled around that area.
Some very familiar names of the pardoned convicts.

Joan,
Sorry took so much time to reply.
Unfortunatley I don't think I would be much help on this family as you seem to have spent
some time on them in NSW which is where I do best.  Are you trying to track them back to   Ireland or do you need more help in NSW. or is your brick wall in Ireland.I have done a fair bit of research in Ireland too.  Mainly Kilkenny my Walsh ancestors and Byrne for a friend of my son and Wcklow.  The friend was born in Taralga in the Richlands Hotel at that time when his parents had it.  To strike it for information in Ireland you have to be in the right place at the right time.  I just happened one day after fruitless hours to stumble across a National School in Kilkenny with the title St. Brendans.  They gave an email address and I made an enquiry about a RC church of that name in the villiage.  She was a lovely lady and sent back an email with the Priest's name and (get this) his email address.  So I sent him an email with my queries and now await a reply.  Might not find anything in his records.  It could be the wrong villiage of that name but at least I had somewhere to try.  There is another villiage of the same name in Kilkenny (those Irish don't make it easy) so if this one brings nothing I can try the other one.  Keeps me on my toes.
Also just in the middle of a breakthrough in Mackay who emigrated to Vancouver.  Two people one from Tongue and one from Kirtomy married there. The Kirtomy lady was of the line I follow but Tongue is not so far away so maybe they knew each other before emigrating.  Anyway am up to my neck in that twig of the Mackay branch of the Mackay trunk.  So many Mackay's.  Quite a few emigrated to Sydney and I married one of the sons.
Sometimes my head hurts from banging it against the wall and I put it aside & move to another problem in another tree altogether.  Have a lot in train at the moment.
Actually accidentally deleted a whole tree last night.  Couldn't sleep, I had tried everything I knew to restore it and no.  Nothing worked. I am still trying to do catch up in re entering several trees that disappeared in the crash before Xmas.  Now I tell you how luck plays a part.  I was trawling through some old backup of info disks view to file or discard and opened up about number 30 and was getting ready to pack up and something caught my eye.  One of the folders on the disk had the Decendants  of the person name of the tree I had deleted.  Couldn't believe it .  Tried to transfer it into Legacy software with other trees and whee....it worked.  You can imagine, with shaking hands back it up immediately AND onto disk and in another place.  No way I could lose that again. As I had not been into that tree for a while it was almost up todate.  I was also able to obtain some gedcoms for some of the other trees and just need to bring them up to date.  But there are two very large trees
that there is no other way other than type it all in again.  I have the paper print out on both but want to get the data and narrative stuff into the software again.
Why do we do it, there must be plenty of other ways to send ourselves mad?
Paddy

Paddy they were from Ederny in Fermanagh.
Daniel Gallagher came here in 1841 on the Orestes, departing from
Liverpool, and they settled around Bungendore, Queanbeyan NSW.
I have quite a lot on them in NSW as someone has written a book but the
information stops abruptly for the period before they arrived.
The parents (dead in 1841) were Michael Gallagher and Susan Monaghan.
Thanks Paddy, I had put this aside and forgotten it.

Jenelle,
My husband repaired our Walsh grave pedestal and cross in Waverley Cemetery, Bronte again before Xmas, that makes three times in the last two years.  Pedestal broken and cross also.  Pieces toss away.  The cross and pedestal were made by Patrick my grandfather.  When he died my dad took over the care of the small (by comparison to some) monument.  So it also had special meaning for the family.  Only a few weeks ago it happened again.  One of the times may have been repaired by the chaps that keep the grave tidy in perpetual care.  When we turned up that time to gather the pieces to repair we found it was already put back together  but now since then has happened twice again.  Today, we haven't fixed it again as yet.  It now has a plain cross as the original Celtic cross made by my grandfather was smashed so badly it couldn't be repaired.  All now in pieces.

This grave has been in use since around the late 1800's.  Never until about two years ago did we have any vandalisation on our grave which is a double and has many rellies in it. Including my parents.Makes you feel sick on the stomach when we go visit the grave and find it vandalised again.  My grandfather was so proud of his work.

Re the West Terrace,Adelaide.  Lots of Leahy and Khan buried there.  the Khan emigrated to S.A. in 1896 and was a camel owner.  He ran a business delivering goods to the far outback by camel train which he organised all from Port Augusta.  The Leahy's were from Kilkenny, to Fremantle.  Then sailed around to Port Augusta.  A couple of the Leahy's worked on the new connection from Adelaide to Perth of the Telegraph.  I don't know how they could live in the conditions out in the Nullbor Plains.  Shoes wore out..you tied them back on etc.  I have a photo of one of the men and the hard life was written all over him
Leahy could be one of ours.  There are a lot of familiar names.

But Khan was from India (now Pakistan and was registered as a gentleman on his shipping papers.)  He was buried in the Moslem area and with his wife who was R.C.  In the Moslem area.???  No damage in that as far as I know.  From what you said it was all in the R.C. section.

Jenelle & Betty,
They think it is great fun to go into a graveyard in the middle of the night to show they are brave,  they take grog (leave evidence behind of course) and also the evidence of drug taking, with other evidence that I won't mention here.  Round about Halloween is a favorite time.  Wipe themselves out then go have more fun by destruction.
It still hurts when I think of how I felt when I saw what had been done.  I rang the others in the family and their reaction was shock.  For years since we were all little Sunday was the day we would go and check our rellies were OK and change the flowers.  Disbelief is one of the reactions.  I wonder how they would feel if someone desecrated the grave of their parents.  Might care if they were sober and not spaced out.

Time to change the subject I think.  All too depressing.

Sometimes I have dreamed of wandering around the cemetery at midnight wearing a white sheet and carrying a tape recorder making spooky noises.
I would probably be arrested for terrifying the poor vandals.
Would enjoy it though.

Saw a lovely piece on ABC news tonight about the amount of water lying around SE Qld.
We are all hoping it makes it to the Murray. We were also pleased to see the cyclone although no fun wasn't as bad as it might have been.

On a more genealogical front - do any of you people know if a QLD birth certificate from 1905 would list all the new child's siblings?

Many thanks

cyclone although no fun wasn't as bad as it might have been.

On a more genealogical front - do any of you people know if a QLD birth
certificate from 1905 would list all the new child's siblings?

Many thanks

Do any of you people know the answer to the following.  When ordering a birth certificate from the GRO (UK)  are the references given from the Free BMD index (ie volume & page) the same as those in the GRO Reference Index?  In other words am I able to quote those from the FreeBMD and get a certificate for 7 pounds or do I have to pay the higher price for certificate without the GRO reference?

Thanks in anticipation
