Green Country Greens and Rural Greens are Proud to Welcome
EARL HATLEY Grand Riverkeeper-Oklahoma
Presenting "COAL TRUTH"
3pm on February 2nd, 2008
at 1314 North Greenwood, Tulsa, OK
at our GCG Monthly meeting!
Come join us and become informed and hopefully inspired to speak out.
Earl L. Hatley, Grand Riverkeeper – Oklahoma, will present a slide show and discuss the environmental
effects of extraction of coal in the Appellation Mountain areas where mountain top removal has become
the way industry now operates it’s extraction technology in the eastern U.S. Mountain top removal is exactly
how it sounds. The dirt and rock wastes completely fill rivers and creeks. Entire forests are destroyed.
The slide show is called "Coal Truth" and was developed by John Wathen, the Hurricane Creek Keeper in Alabama.
"Clean Coal is a dirty lie," said Mr. Hatley. "From the strip mines on the Navajo and Hopi Reservations,
Wyoming and Montana, to the mountain top removal in the east, huge machines are displacing coal miners,
disrupting local economies, and completely destroying miles of landscapes affecting the traditional ways of life for the affected people."
Mr. Hatley will also present and discuss environmental issues related to coal-fired power plants,
and the effects showing up here in Oklahoma. "If you like to fish and hunt you need to see this.
Everyone who breaths the air needs to see this presentation, especially if you have children. We all live down wind." Hatley said.
