Hi Subhashita lovers,
After a long span of inactivity we are agan set for
more and more Subhashitas on the group. All must have received
subhashita 401 sent by Ms. Mrudula Tambe.
Mrudula will be one more moderator for this group here
onwards, and will take responsibility of posting Subhashitas. Mrudula
has very good knowledge and passion of Sanskrit. So we can expect that
we will get good Subhashitas, and other Sanskrit material regularly as
we got in earlier days of this group. Let us welcome Mrudula.
This is just to tell you that our group is older
than seven years, and has members over 1000!. We have send over 400
Subhashitas till the date. For first few years we used to send two
subhashitas weekly. In the following years, we started posting one
subhashita per week. And, for last 2-3 years we are not able to keep
that pace. Lets hope that things will change for good again.
Till now we were sending subhashitas using Shivaji
font. On the Internet, Unicode is becoming standard for encoding
Deonagari script. Hence we have also decided to move to Unicode.
Unicode Devnagari fonts can be downloaded from
http://www.travelphrases.info/gallery/Fonts_Devanagari.html (or can be
easily searched on the Internet).
Let us know if anybody has problem in viewing Unicode text.
If most of us are unable to use Unicode, we may switch back to Shivaji font.
Thanks and regards,
Shubham Bhavatu,
-Milind,
-Mandar.

Meaning Explanation:-
For defeating Lanka, (Lord Rama) had to walk across the sea. His opponent was (powerful)
RavaNa, and his army was of monkeys (All odds were against Rama). Inspite of that Rama
killed all the demons. Success of great men depend solely on their own capacities, and not
on the means they get to use.

Being poor, I can see the whole world but no one else can see me!!

If someone can think of such kind of philosophy inspite
of having to struggle
for basic necessities of life then we can only say
that such a person is a

not only in poor

Dear All,
Here is a nice shloka which is applicable to both Rama
and Krishna by breaking the same charan in a piculiar
fashion.Here it goes:
Yah pootanamaaranalabdha kirtih
Kakodaro Yena vineeta darpah
Yashodayalankrtuta moortiravyat
Natho Yadoonam Athava Raghunam
Meaning:
Line 1:
Yah pootanama(one who is bearing a very holy name
i.e. Rama) and Ranalabdha kirtih (i.e. who has
acquired fame on the battlefield..again Rama)
Now lets break it in this way:
Yah pootana marana labdha kirtih (i.e one who has
acquired fame by killing Pootana..i.e Krishna)
Line 2:
Kakodara meaning Kaliya...one who has vanished the ill
venum of Kaliya..i.e Krishna..
And another meaning of Kakodara is one demon who was
killed by Rama in the battle...so the one who has
killed the demon Kakodara..i.e. Rama
Line 3:
Yasha Udaya alankruta..meaning who is adorned by
success..i.e Rama
and Yashodaya alankruta..i.e. one who is adorned by
Yashoda..i.e. Krishna..
Line 4:
Natho Yadoonam..one is leader of Yadavas..i.e. Krishna
and athava Raghunam..one who is leader of
Raghavas..i.e Rama..
Warm Regards,
Saurabh.

The virtuous who partake of what is left over after sacrifice,
are absolved of all sins. Those sinful ones who cook for the sake
of nourishing their body alone eat only sin.
Bhagwan Shree Krishna has highlighted that an
individual should not
live only for himself/herself. The message of helping
others and doing
some charity is conveyed, which is the utmost need of
this hour.
Also note that the word yadnya has much more wide

only the ritual part of it.

Meaning/Explanation :-
After seeing the dead body of her husband Ravana, Mandodari uttered, It is said that when the tears of a pati-vrata (a devout wife) drop on the land, they do not go waste. And this has been proved once again in your case.
Vrata means that which is strictly followed with utmost devotion and missionary zeal. Sita, having followed the vrata of being devoted to her Lord Rama, had attained a spritual and moral depth. And Ravana having captured and tortured such an elevated soul had to pay for his sin. Mandodaris wisdom has to appreciated that even in the time of greatest sorrow she could understand the real cause of her husbands demise.

Dear Sahyadrilovers,
This mail is not about Subhashitas. So if you feel its irrelevent,
please ignore it.
Here, I'm making appeal to my Indian brothers, to sign the following petition
http://www.petitiononline.com/Abhijit/petition.html.
Its for "Restoration of Swa. Savarkar plaque at Andaman".
For those who dont know who Swatantryaveer Savarkar was.
He was the man who spent his youth in Andaman as he was a big threat
to British government. He believed in getting independence by fighting
with Brithishers and throwing them out of India, rather than
requesting them to quit India.
It was his difference in the idealogy with congress, for which
congress never appreciated the path he selected, neither the conogress
recognised his sacrifice for the motherland. In continuation of the
congress tradition, Union Petroleam Minister, Mr. Mani Shankar Iyer
removed Savarkar's plaque from the Andaman.
This petition is for that.
Swa. Savarkar was also famous for his attempts create/use words with
Sanskrit orign, where foreign origin words were used. (e.g.
parliament, assembly, law, etc)
Thanks and regards
-Mandar.
Yaksha put forth the following question to
Yudhishthira- Who is the enemy of men
difficult to conquer and what is the endless disease? What is the nature of a
good man and what is the nature of a bad man?.
The above SuBAshita is the answer given by
Yudhishthira-
Anger is the enemy of men difficult to conquer
and covetousness (greed) is the endless desire. A good man is one who seeks
welfare of all beings and a bad man is one who has no compassion or mercy.

The earth and sky are often compared to the mother and father
