Universal Children's Day takes place on November 20 annually.
Universal Children's Day is simply set to honor children by;
- promoting mutual exchange and understanding among children
- initiating action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world's children
- celebrating childhood!
Universal Children's Day (20 November) celebrates children just for being themselves. It reminds us that children need love and respect to grow to their full potential. It is a day to listen to children, to marvel at their uniqueness and all they have to offer.
November 20 is also the anniversary of the The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child – an international convention setting out the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of children.
The adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the creation of Universal Children's Day reflects the growing recognition that children are important and valued members of society, now and in the future.
Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child says that states shall:
"… respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life."
We believe live theatre is essential to the artistic, cultural, social and spiritual development of today's young people. Every civilisation and culture has enjoyed the art of theatre… celebrating difference and unity.
"Children Need Theatre…as much as they need to run about in the fresh air" – Philip Pullman
