The "Strange Antenna Challenge" is held every Memorial Day Weekend (USA). During this annual special event, radio amateurs accept the unique challenge of constructing amateur radio antennas out of "strange" materials such as aluminum ladders, metal folding chairs, chicken wire, vehicles, and bronze statues.
The only rules are no "wire" or "pipe" may be used, unless they are part of another structure. For example, we can't simply remove a metal tent pole and use it as an antenna, but we CAN "fly" the entire tent as a Strange Antenna!
(Yes, kiddies, tent poles used to be metal! heheh)
Among the reasons for engaging in such an unusual special event is to prepare for radio operations following a disaster, club promotion, media attention, and for the pure joy of talking to a foreign station in Africa using a pair of metal folding chairs on your roof as your antenna!

You may participate by simply completing our QSO as your normal Amateur Radio Station, or by yourself operating as a Satellite Strange Antenna Challenge Station. The choice is yours!

Either way, Dwayne wb5plj and I (Erik n0ew) will look forward to working your station! Until then, 73!
