Dear SPARC members, Dennis Elias, Terry Kosewic, John Mills, Ray Johnson, Jack Rittenhouse
I read the staff report and looked at the revised plans for the Petaluma Plaza Gas Station remodel.
l feel because of your recommendations it is a much better project. Even tough some might say "its only a Gas Station" and I agree that any improvement is better then what's there now, all of you took the time to make suggestions.
Appreciated Jack saying it's one of the busiest intersections suggesting glass blocks, Ray on ingress/egress and bird doo-doo, Dennis on landscaping & Terry on benches (Terry you are right I never noticed the benches on the corners) and much more.
I know the owner wanted you to approve it at the last meeting but you did not just rubber stamp it and really looked out for the community. Its good to know he doesn't have to wait until after the SPARC/Planning merger. I was kind of worried about that.
I love the color of the tree flowers and the matching oasis red paint that looks like Magenta. I think that color would look nice instead of the rust color on the buildings. I really liked Jack's idea of glass blocks for visual and natural lighting but understand they may not of been economically feasible, too bad.
I use that gas station all the time. After getting gas like many people who live northeast, go right and drive behind the shopping center, truck delivery route to get back on N McDowell to drive north. Will we still be able to do this?
If not we will have to go left then right onto a right turn only lane that goes west over the 101 overpass, then make a U turn to drive east back over 101 to go right on N McDowell.
I want to point this out because we should avoid more cars on a busy intersection having to drive the opposite direction of their destination. Unless there is a different way to turn around, I could not figure that out on the plans.
There is no doubt in my mind Vince Marango is aware of the remodel and if possible will coordinate the remodel with the timing of the East Eashington Improvement Project if possible. Would hate to see that intersection shut down twice if it could be done once, you know what I mean?
I keep saying the area along N McDowell is butt ugly but there are opportunities to make it better, and thank you for doing so as SPARC members. Hope you don't mind me submitting my comment prior to the day of your meeting.
