Hey there!

Some of you are aware that I have been putting together a bit of performance art
at the
Pagan Picnic in Tower Grove Park for the last couple of years.

It's called "The Living Tarot" and basically I'm looking for local costumers,
performance
artists, and/or students of the Tarot to participate.
For this performance/ritual, I need (about 20) people to each represent one of
the major
archana cards. We stand in a large circle, and the person representing The Fool
brings the
audience in a few at a a time. The audience members are given a bag and
instructions to
visit the cards in whatever order they choose. Each "card" provides a brief
description of
the wisdom of that card, and a handful of seeds representing the seeds of
knowledge.

The Pagan Picnic is on June 7th and 8th this year. We do not perform on both
days.

It occurred to me that some of you might like to participate in this event. If
you are
interested, there's a Group set up here in the Yahoogroups.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/livingtarot/

Please join and vote in the poll to chose your card. If you want me to choose a
card for
you, I can do that too. If you want to play but need help with costuming or
props (or even
a "script") I am happy to help you.

Thanks!

I have sent you an invitation to join the Living Tarot group, so come on over
and see
what's up!

We will be doing this in the middle of the day at Tower Grove Park, so I
actually don't
know if we can do live fire performances. (I'll have to check) However, I'm sure
we can
come up with something wonderful! See you there!

Anyone else?

I have a friend (yes it's true--I do, but I'm not here to brag) and
she works for The Choice Project.

It is a state funded program intended solely to provide 10,000 women
(**more if possible) with FREE birth control of their choice for 3
years. In fact, the good folks there even give you GIFT CERTIFICATES
for participating!

It is a win/win situation!

They give you a wellness physical, test you for all the latest and
coolest STDs, and even warm the speculum for you! The best part is,
YOU get to choose what kind of birth control you want, and YOU DON'T
PAY ONE RED CENT! All they ask is that, IF you have health insurance,
you get them to cover whatever they are willing to pay. Whatever is
left over, The Choice Project will gladly pay, so absolutely NOTHING
will come out of your pocket! If you don't have insurance, NO
WORRIES! They will HOOK YOU UP as well!

**The Choice Project received only a certain amount of funding, so
anything that can be footed by the much lauded insurance companies,
allows the Project to extend their hand to MORE THAN the 10,000 women
the Project originally planned to benefit.

Ladies, what more could you ask for? I got mine and BOY HOWDY, am I
pleased! I feel like I could make sweet, sweet love to the entire
world now, and I won't have to worry anymore about that pesky
unintentional impregnation problem that used to bother me
constantly...

Plus, I can get $15 worth of hard liquor and pork rinds
entirely ON THEM! They gave me a $15 gift certificate for Schnuck's
for my time... When you go for any check-ups, they will give you a
gift certificate for those, as well.

CALL THEM! TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

The Choice Project: 314-747-0800. They are conveniently located in
the BJC clusterf*ck at Taylor Avenue and Clayton Road, so you can get
some fresh, worry-free strange immediately afterwards at the Atomic
Cowboy!!!

Tell them Lana sent you!

"It's so easy! Now you can be, too!"
--UNofficial motto of The Choice Project

We are in the process of recruiting medical volunteers for the gateway
burn this year. Anyone with any medical background is encouraged to
volunteer their time with us. Anyone interested should be
BLS/CPR/First Aid certified and provide a copy of your BLS /CPR/First
Aid card.
We will have a medical tent or medical station with an easy-up/carport
and hopefully a couple of cots-which brings me to my next request:
-We need two or three cots for the medical station..no fun being sick,
wounded or dead and having to lie on the hard ground...
..We are still working on a creative name for ourselves as well as
some creative uniforms...anyone with any ideas feel free to throw them
out there! Thanks!

ONE HUNDRED CREATIVE CITIZENS
Call for 100 creative people.
One hundred creative people in one place at one time can create a new world.
This year the Black Rock Arts Foundation, from the people who bring you
Burning Man, awarded grants to six art projects around the world.
One in New York, one in Los Angeles, one in San Francisco,
one in London, one in Beijing and one in St. Louis.
Yes, this St. Louis. Yes, this project.
Come be a part of this project.
CALL TO ARTISTS
On the weekend that the rest of America celebrates Columbus Day
we will be celebrating the discovery of a new world.
In the spirit of rediscovery and recovery a new world will be founded
on the banks of the Mississippi River.
We need one hundred people to help create it.
On the cobblestones nestled between the arch and the ever-changing river a
new world of creative freedom will be formed.
That world will be Artica.
October 10, 11 and 12 a society of radical self-expression and creativity
will exist without the normal restrictions. No permits, fees, or licenses
needed for busking, performing or making art within the Artica city limits.
Take the opportunity to create art by the Arch and present it to the world.
Watch the full moon rise up from the river and the sun set on the city.
Be part of the Boat of Dreams parade.
Create a circus of rapture! A carnival of dreams! A festival of the
imagination!
You can make this world whatever you want it to be!
(No art installations may be taller than the arch and safety restrictions
apply)
Parades! Video! Music! Dance! Create! Celebrate! Participate!
St. Louis is the creative center of the universe.
St. Louis has 100 creative citizens.
Are you one of them?
How you would demonstrate it?

Midway Carnival Supply on the St. Charles Rock Rd is going out of business. I
strongly encourage all Santas to make a pilgrimage to the store and check out
the available Santa suits. There is currently a whole aisle of Santa suits, Mrs.
Claus costumes, Elf costumes, and accessories at 30% off!

They're even selling off their rental costumes and equipment- and that includes
the gorgeous candelabras, archways, and etc. Artica Artists? Need some supplies?

The last day seems to be September 19th.

ARTI$T$ PROPO$AL$ AND SITE VISIT

Artica has received limited funding to assist
artists in creating large scale installation
projects and performance art pieces that involve
audience participation for the Artica festival.
No projects may be taller than the Arch nor
impede river traffic. Funding will range from
$100 to $1000 depending on the number of projects
and the level of excellence.

The deadline for proposals is Monday, September 23.
There will be a site visit on Saturday, September 13, 4:00pm.

Meet at the overlook stage in front of the Arch
and look for a tall man in a large orange cowboy
hat. To submit a proposal or get more information call
Hap Phillips at 314-369-7832
or contact _Artica2003@..._ (mailto:Artica2003@...)

The festival will be held on
Saturday, October 11 and Sunday October 12
on the cobblestone levee between the Arch and
the Mississippi River. All art projects of any
type are encouraged and welcome at Artica.

All artists and creative citizens are invited to participate.
All musicians, poets, dancers, puppeteers and performance artists are
encouraged to busk at the festival with the approval from Artica.

ARTI$T$ VENDING OPPORTUYNITY RULES AND SITE VISIT

Are you tired of sitting in your tent waiting for
customers to shop by? This is finally your chance
to make the sales of your art creative and exciting.

For example, instead of purchasing a piece of work,
have the participant purchase a turn of a chance
wheel, and have the person act out one of several
poses, emotions or actions, then collage the Polaroids
and build a mosaic of the experience in your setup area.

Or, provide the materials for a participant to
create a simple work of art in your area, then trade
their piece for your piece.

Another example, make the participant compete with
a chicken at tic-tack-toe, and every one is a winner,
and the prize is your art.

We do not care if your art matches the couch swatches
or family room paint chips. Bring what you want,
and sell what you want, but make it interactive.
This is your opportunity to make your sale a creative
process. Think carnival, think snake oil salesman,
think outside the box! but for goodness sakes think
beyond just trading cash for product.

ARTICA 2008

The festival will be held on
Saturday, October 11 and Sunday October 12

There will be a site visit on Saturday, September 13 at 4:00pm.
Meet at the overlook stage in front of the Arch and
look for a tall man in a large orange cowboy hat.

--------------
WHAT IS ARTICA
--------------
Artica is an outdoor multi-media art festival,
parade and workshop series developed to provide
the people of the St. Louis metropolitan area
with the opportunity to come together as a
community through creative self-expression.

The event takes place along the Mississippi
riverfront in order to revitalize an area that
has been polluted, neglected and abandoned for
far too long. Although our audience is
primarily all of the citizens of the St. Louis
metropolitan area, the whole world is invited
to attend and expected to participate as
co-creators during the festival.

Artica’s development is as fluid as the river
it celebrates, and its scope depends greatly
upon the involvement of the community.

Artica will happen on the St. Louis riverfront
between the Arch and the water, north of the
Poplar Street Bridge, and south of, and upon
the riverfront main stage on
October 11 & 12 (Saturday and Sunday), 2008.

----------------------
ANYONE CAN PARTICIPATE
----------------------
Art projects of any type are encouraged and
welcome at Artica. All artists and creative
citizens are invited to participate whether
they receive a grant or not. Also all
musicians, poets, dancers, puppeteers and
performance artists are encouraged to busk
at the festival with the approval from Artica.

Just a reminder that this Saturday, September 27th is the annual Goblin Ball in
Florissant
from 5:30 to 10:30.

It is a masked ball inspired by the Bubble Ball from Labyrinth, with influences
from
MirrorMask, Pan's Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, The Last Unicorn, and all your
favorite
fantasy images.

This is our Fourth year, and we're very happy to be in Sunset Park again. This
event is all-
ages, with family friendly music, dancing, mask-making, treats, drinks, costume
contest,
drumming around the bonfire, and a fairy-tale themed Haunted Trail at the end of
the
evening.

Admission is free, but we do request a donation to the Treasure Chest.

More information and maps can be found on my website:
http://www.triciastreasurechest.com/goblinball08.html

Bring the kids, dress up and dance with the faeries and goblins all night!

I know it's just late September, but I was wondering: What's the date for Santarchy this year? Is the list of bars already set?

Wow, you really are excited to get your Santa ON!

No, we really have not begun serious planning for Santarchy Yet.
It usually starts getting planned in October. We still have

Gateway Burn www.gatewayburners.org
and
ARTICA www.artica.org
to get crazy with.

i think December.  a Saturday.  yup a Saturday in December, before the 25th.
the bars/stops should be a nice mix. something to annoy everybody.
that's my vote.

they really do listen to suggestions.  but some places are a better fit than others:
is it easy to access from public transit (mandatory)?  is it big enough?  how many toilets does it have? (I'm serious)
what santa specials are they willing to offer? what variety of food & drink & entertainment do they have?
what unique esthetic would this stop bring to the adventure?

Let it Ho, Let it Ho, Let it Ho!
