Skipping out on your taxi driver without paying the fare is very un-Santa like.
It also comes back on the person who was kind enough to call your drunk butt a
cab in the first place.

In the future, please try to suck less. K? Thx.

It was late, the bars were all letting out so every cab company (that would actually pick up the phone) said it'd be another hour or two before someone could get there. It was, in fact, lame.
Fortunately, they lived literally a few blocks away from where we were going, so it all worked out well.

This is Tricia, and I was the Toymaker Elf at Santarchy this year. Since I know
that all of you are artists who work in many different kinds of media, I thought
it would be appropriate to post this information here.

As I'm sure many of you are aware, I work for Jackman's Fabrics on Lindbergh.

I have two opportunities to share with everyone!

Opportunity 1: Artistic parts
We repair sewing machines, but sometimes one comes through that can't be
repaired and the customer does not want it back. Most of these are older Singer
models, and it being the end of the year, Jackman's is going to dispose of these
broken machines.
None of them will sew, none are operational. However, a sewing machine by its
very nature is filled with GEARS, COGS, and the like. If you're working on art
projects in the post-modern industrial or steampunk genres and want machine
parts, this is a grand opportunity!
Let me know if you are interested in all or part of one of these machines. They
DO NOT SEW, but some of their mechanical parts still function.

Opportunity 2:
Some of you are either sewing already or aspire to sew. Right now we have good
news and better news for anyone considering acquiring a sewing machine. We carry
machines that handle heavy fabrics like fur and leather and denim (just ask
Cherry/LoliSanta!)
Jackman's Fabrics has three locations: Fairview Heights, Lindbergh between Page
and Olive, and Watson Road at McKenzie Point Plaza. We own two of our buildings,
but the Watson Rd. location is in a strip mall and we lost our lease.
The good news: the Store Closing Sale has already begun and there are machines
(sewing, embroidery, overlock) available for "everything must go" sale!
The Better News: Jackman's Fabrics is still going strong, so you can still get
your lifetime lessons from either of our current locations, OR at any future
locations!
Now is the perfect time to acquire a sewing/embroidery/overlock machine and also
get all the training you need to master its mysteries! As I said, these machines
(Babylock Brand) are sturdy workhorses and the embroidery machines are
remarkably easy to work with. Babylock invented the home serger and have led the
industry ever since. (Babylock Sergers thread themselves now, and don't use
"tension" dials!!!)

If you wish to speak to me about machines or other work-related ideas, feel free
to contact me at work: (314)994-1060.
I'm at the Lindbergh location, usually.

interesting opportunty to put Burning Man front and center before a large local
creative crowd.  Also, the more burners present in their most Playa-Fabulous the
better the experience for everyone.  Besides
It's free to get in
It's free to drink wine

What is Burning Man?
Saturday, January 23
7:00-10:00 p.m.
Craft Alliance in the Kranzberg Arts Center

Craft Alliance Metals Artist-in-Residence Michael Parrett, a longtime
participant of "Burning Man," will host an evening of film and discussion about
the annual event in our Gallery and Education Center in the Kranzberg Arts
Center.  "Burning Man" takes place in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada each
summer, an event during which thousands of participants gather to create Black
Rock City, dedicated to community, art, self-expression and self-reliance.  They
leave one week later, leaving no trace that the city existed.

On Saturday, January 23, 2010, join us for films, activities and discussion that
focus on the art of "Burning Man" here in Grand Center.  Bring your own seat and
cup, and meet local participants and artists who make Burning Man part of their
lives each year.  At the end of the event, leave no trace-just as if you are a
member of the desert community.

This event is free and open to the public, but contributions are welcome.

If you would like to see some Faeries in the Park, now would be a good time to
look.
The season are changing, and around here that means that the spirits of Spring
and Summer are warring with one another for dominance.

Now is also the time for the Winter Court to finally surrender the Crown to the
Summer Court of the Fae.

Visit your local Victorian Pleasure Garden, pay particular attention to the
north-east corner, and bring your cameras. You may get a glimpse of the Good
Neighbors in their frolicking finery!

And those of you with Faerie Blood singing in your veins, those of you who wish
to herald the coming of spring, don your gay apparel and let your wings float
free. Faeries, Goblins, Elves, Sprites, Pixies, Leprechauns, Satyrs, Angels,
Nymphs, DemiGods, Forest Spirits and all their ilk are invited to join us and
take your side of the Court of the Fae; Are you with Winter, or Summer?

This Saturday, April 17th, at 1pm the Faerie Courts will gather their members
and meet in in Tower Grove Park. Meet at the Old Playground Shelter, where we
will hold Faerie Court and King Valerion of the Winter Fae (Otherwise known as
the Goblin King) will pass the crown of leadership to The Faerie Queen of
Summer.

Having completed the ritual, the faeries have been invited to a birthday
celebration for one of the most recent Changelings. Her name is that of a
beautiful flower, and her mother is a very Curious Cat, Body and Soul. (If you
can't guess her identity, send me a personal email and I will explain.)
The baby's first birthday party will happen at 1pm at the Old Playground. The
Faeries will come and bestow gifts, blessings, and joy upon the celebration.

For more information, such as what to bring, wear or etc, please contact me
personally.

Share this info. Let your friends know, and their friends, and so on. I would
love for there to be a large Faerie Flash Mob in Tower Grove Park this Saturday!

BUILD it and BURN it

Call For
Proposals for Effigy Sculpture

Gateway Burn 2010
Water on the Moon & Other
Impossibilities

Event: June 10th - 13th

ProposalDeadline: April 24th

Gateway Burn is
an official Burning Man Regional Event
based out of St Louis.

Gateway Burn is both
a
focused resulting expression of the collective creative
energy of
artists, creative beings, and doer of the Saint
Louis community at large as well
as a source and incubator
of creative inspiration.

Gateway Burn
manifests as a four day camping art festival and performance
collective. Volunteers work together to enable and
empower
the community by providing a location in space and time free
of the normal cultural and logistical restrictions of the
everyday existence of live in the city, freeing people to
radically express
themselves in ways that are not
normally acceptable or possible.

Gateway Burn will fund one featured burnable sculpture to
be burned Saturday night June 12th.
This is the featured moment of the even, so it should be
in some way, spectacular.

A Budget of $250.00 has already been earmarked
for the
effigy, but more money could be allocated based on the
availability of funds, and the awesomeness of the
proposals.

Also, Gateway Burn can and
will assist the execution of
this effigy in several ways. We have
skilled and
equipped volunteers ready to help construct, locate
free materials, transport the object(s), on site set up,
clean up, and
burn safety. If you have an idea, but
not the skills, we will
supply you with skilled
volunteers. Do NOT let that prevent you
from applying.

ANY CREATIVE
PROJECT IS ELIGIBLE FOR
CONSIDERATION,
Proposals will be
evaluated based on the following
(in no particular order):
- Quality:
creativity / interactivity /
thoughtfulness / originality /
excitement / inspiration
-
Execution:
planning / feasibility / safety plan / clean-up plan /
budget /
past work
- Principles:
reflection of the "10
Principles" of Burning
Man
- Theme: how or
if the work supports the Art Theme of
the event

The GAS Committee
will carefully review the Effigy
proposals, and make the
selection and notify the recipient as soon
as possible.
