Hello GerSig,

I just joined the group.  I have been doing genealogy research for

some 6 years. I consider myself to be intermediate in doing German Jewish

Genealogy research. I live in suburban Chicago, Illinois USA

My native language is German and I also speak English, French and some

Spanish.

I consider myself intermediate in using a computer.  My experience in

using the Internet is also intermediate.


I have identified the names and birth and death dates of a considerable

number of my RINDSBERG ancestors, all of whom seem to hail originally

from Uehlfeld, Bavaria. I also have some information about the STERN

families related to my paternal grandmother HANNCHEN STERN RINDSBERG who

was born in Gissigheim and lived in what is now Obernzenn and in

Mainstockheim. We regularly travel to Germany and other European

countries and have done considerable on-site research.


My primary research goals now are to find out any additional information

about both family ancestors and especially additional currently living

descendants.


I am also very interested in locating any survivors and their

descendants who were child refugees in the 1940's in the Chateau de La

Hille and in Seyre in Vichy France (I was one of these children).

Groswallstadt.
We have no records of any siblings or other relatives.  I would like to

Dear readers,

I am looking to connect my ancestors who were Leviim by the name of
STERN, to the TaZ. The TaZ had many descendants, and so far, thanks
to Chaim Freedman who referred me to Rav Meir Wunder's books, I know
that the TaZ had descendants by the name of STERN in Galicia. There
is also mention of STERN descendants of the TaZ in books such as
Klilat Yofi anf Luchot Zikaron. But I'm trying to connect the ends.

My STERN ancestors come from the town of Munkatch (also called
"Mukachevo") in Hungary.  Is anyone out there related to the TaZ?
Or can help fill in the connection?  Is anyone by any chance related
to STERNs who come from Munkatch? I would appreciate anyone's
contribution.

to is "The Unbroken Chain", by Dr. Neil Rosenstein, not Neil Stein. This book,
(in actuality a two volume set), chronicles Dr. Rosenstein's family tree, and
the many branches that spread out from it.

    My Great Great Grandmother Annie (Chana) STERN daughter of Natan
Neta STERN came to the US in 1900.  She was married to Abraham Chaim
HAAS, sometimes spelled HASS, and they were Levi's. They were
cousins to each other.  They came from Zloczow, (Galicia, Austria,
now the
Ukraine).
    Their children where also born in Zloczow.  They are Dina, Mollie
(both married Jacob Jehuda Eisgrau, consequtively), Minnie (married
Hyman Wolfson, and twins Morris  (married Pesie/Pepie Abrams) and
Celia (married Jacob Ortsman).
    Other names related to the family are PARNES, APRIL and
KOHL/KALB, SCHWARTZ.   I don't know the names of any specific
persons.  The mother of actor Joseph Schildkraut is also supposed to
be related.
    I hope that someone might have a connection.

I'm most interested in find out more about Siegmund KULP's family, and
filling in

STERNs.

I haven't received replies in the past, but I'm optimistic and
hopeful that listers will contact me if any names are familiar.

My late maternal grandfather, Lazare/Laizer/Eliezer Simcha STERN,
a"h, hardly ever spoke about his family or life in Poland, and I was
young when he passed away.

Not many relatives alive today have (m)any of the answers to my
questions.

My grandfather, a"h, was born in Goworowo, Poland, where his
maternal grandfather was rav (rabbi). I have no idea where his
parents  Yaakov Zilhah/Yankel, a"h, and Tontse, nee KLEPFISZ, a"h,
were born, married, passed away.

I know that his brother, Yitzchok Dovid, a"h, was born in Wyszkow,
Poland, and immigrated to Montreal, as did my grandfather.

I am in contact with their descendants.

One sister, Chaya Faiga, Hy"d, perished in WW2. She married Kohen,
and I am in contact with their descendants. (I don't know where in
Poland she was born.)

One sister, Rochel, a"h, married Birenbaum, and I am in contact with
their descendants. (I don't know where in Poland she was born.)


One brother, Solomon/Sol/Shloime, a"h, married Stella Bloomstone,
a"h. They immigrated to Montreal from ? in Poland. At some point
(nobody seems to know when), they moved from Montreal to New York.
(I don't know where in Poland he was born, either.)

I have e-mailed all the Sterns listed on family finder, and have searched the
census,
Ellis Island, and the Chicago Historical Society. Have also checked the
Social Security
Deaths index. I would welcome any suggestion on how to further continue my
search
as I am beginning to feel as though I've gone as far as I can.

stern= muchos apellidos judios derivan de "expresiones del idioma hablado".
la palabra alemana de "estrella", stern es documentada como apellido judio desde
el siglo XVII en las ciudades
alemanas de frankfurt, main y hamburgo, y praga (bohemia).

an indirect source os stern as a family names is represented by the traditional
house signs in frankfurt and other
german cities, many of which displayed stars. a stern family living in a house
called "stern" (star) is recorder in the city in the
15th century.
in some cases stern is a toponymic surname (i.e.derived from places of origin or
residence), associated with the
village of sterniany in white russia, whose name is said to have been
abbreviated to sternin and eventually stern.
in jewish tradition, stars are associated with metaphors and symbolical meaning.
they are used in the bible in a
figurative sense, as in joseph's dream in which his parents are represented by
the sun and moon, and his eleven
brothers by eleven stars (genesis 9-10).
balaam's controversial prophecy that a star shall step out of jacob and a
sceptre rise out of israel (numbers 24.17)
was said to have been fulfilled by simon of koseba in judah, who was given the
messianic byname bar kochba
(the hebrew for "son of the stars" traslated into the german name sternsohn).
bar kochba led the last big jewish
rising against the romans (132-135) and re-conquered jerusalem before being
defeated by hadrian's general severus.
the hexagonal star, known as maguen david (shield od david), found on a hebrew
seal from the seventh century
b.c.e., discovered in sidon, has become the universally recognised symbol of
judaism all over the world, of zionism
and the state of israel.
