Hello, Milt;
I have several indexes for the Cincinnati/hamilton County area and looked up
for your query on Louis Stern (and possibly Menachem Stern). Only entries I
found for that name:
Stern, Lewis immigrated aged 24 from Oldenburg
Stern, Louis married Laura Hoffheimer 14 Jan 1880
If either of these interest you, get back to me and I'll give you the source
of the entry. No Menachem Stern (or simiilar spelling) was found. There
are, of course, many other Sterns listed.
Good luck

Greetings!
An ancestor of mine was Jettchen Stern, 1755-1835. She married
Meier L"obenstein, probably in Datterode, Hessen. Their son Israel
L"obenstein
was born in Datterode in 1797.

Does anyone recognize these names? A miracle?

Regards,
Len.

Hello, again;
You asked for the sources of the two entries I found for Lewis/Louis Stern
in Hamilton County, Ohio.
The immigration info came from "Hamilton County, Ohio Citizenship Record
Abstracts, 1837-1916" compiled by Lois E. Hughes (Heritage Books, Inc.), page
375, ref# given are: Vol. 3, page 267. This should get you a copy of whatever
they have at the Carl Blegen Bldg, Rare Books and Archives, Univ. of
Cincinnati.
The marriage of Louis Stern to Laura Hoffheimer on 14 Jan. 1880 comes from
the Cincinnati Freie Presse newspaper, copies available at the Public Library
in Cinci.
   Good luck

Any idea where in Germany?

My maternal gggrandfather and his brother adopted the names WALLERSTEIN and
LOEWENSTEIN respectively in Siegburg, Germany in 1848.

My paternal STERN name is not connected to this family, except through the
marriage of my parents. However, there was a STERN family in Siegburg, who
may or may not have been related to my mother's ancestors.

> Louis bros and sis were bertha, issac, emma, moses, and charles

Bertha, Isaac Moses were common first names among the WALLERSTEIN and
LOEWENSTEIN clan... but then they were common names amnong German Jews of the
day.

Hi Charlotte

Thank you for the marriage info. These may be my relatives. Unfortunately I
am unable to tie in any other STERN in DC to my Aaron STERN who was a lifelong
bachelor. Some of the city directory listings seem to indicate he stayed
with another bunch of STERNS but this could just be that there were two Aaron
STERNs in DC or that he was listed twice. As you can see nothing is clear to
me.

Does the book indicate the religion of the participants? All mine were
Jewish.

There are a number of Stern marriages listed in Wesley E. Pippenger and
Dorothy S. Provine's books on DC Marriage Records. In the book coverin
1870-1877 there is a Moses Stern to Mina Dahl 9 Oct. 1872 L in book 10,
page 261. The L means there was only a license issued and the minister
did not return the actual marriage record. This was fairly normaly.
There is also a William H. Sterne to Alice C. Fague on May 1, 1876, book
9, page 220.
I don't know if you have any names or time periods.

I was able to obtain info on my Arlington internee by telephoning the
cemetery. They gave me info over the phone. A letter or email will
probably work too. I have been told that they will provide a free photo of the
tombstone upon request.

My AAron STERN has a page on mike's excellent Arlington web site

I found a vital records film covering 17xx to 18xxx covering the STERN family
in the Jewish population of Koningsberg Prussia in the collection of church of
Latter Day Saints. They have an extensive collection of German Jewish vital
records.

I am researching my Stern family from Heppenheim an der Bergstrasse in Hessen.

My family are descended from Gottfried Stern circa 1784-1838 who married
Nannchen Hochschild circa 1787-1857.

He had seven children, four boys. Salomon 1810-1880 who married Jette
Maierfeld circa 1813-1886 and whose children I do not know, Feist (my great
great grandfather) 1812-1889, Mendel 1815-? and Heimann 1817-1900.

Feist - in respect of two of his children, Rosa and my Leopold -and Heimann
(who became a Henry Starr) and went to Ohio and Louisville, Kentucky are the
only lines I know.

Gottfried's and Nannchen's girls were Mameth 1820-?, Guthal 1823-? and Hindle
1825-?.

Feist had lived up to his name and married two wives (not both at the same
time, I hasten to add) and had at least 11 children.

From the first marriage to Jette Weis (1812 or 1815-1849) there were four
children: Gottfried born and died 1844, Eva born and died 1845, (poor woman!),
An Unknown born? died 1848 and Jette 1849-?

From my great great grandmother Jeanette Maierfeld circa 1823-1878, there was:

Moses 1850-? Probably emigrated to New York 1867 (there may have been a less
"religious" version of the name that he used)

Abraham 1853-?

Mina 1855-? who married a Moses Schwarzschild from Massenheim near Frankfurt
am Main.

Malchen 1857-?

Anna 1859-?

Rosa 1860-1933

and FINALLY

my great grandfather Leopold 1863-1901.

Any names sound familiar?

Hello Alice. None of the names are familiar to me. Do you know where Fleiden
is compared to the location of your ancestors. The reason why I ask is I
wonder if there is a connection that I cannot presently make. Andy Stern

Flieden is above Frankfurt am Main, while Heppenheim an der Bergstrasse is
below - nearer Mannheim. Heppenheim is between Bensheim and Weinheim if you
look at a map of Germany.

Even though they are a few miles apart, I wouldn't rule out a connection. Have
you any Herz family in your tree.
