I could have swore he was... i keep getting a picture in my head of Chekov calling him a dirty Cossack for some reason.

I think the biggest reason why Chekov spat at Khan in STII:TWOK was the fact that Khan had attempted to take over the enterprise, and tortured him and other members of the ships crew...

Chekov all but spat at Khan in TWOK. The implication was that oncee having
been burned by genetic alteraion, the Federation was going to be really
careful about it.

The meta-game side of that is that Trek is a TV show about people. We want
charcters that can be empathized with.
