Hello everyone! I've been a die-hard Trek reader ever since "Mission to

Picard's away team to an ancient abandoned Earth colony discovers what seems to
be an old foot-powered device used to stitch fabric together.
LaForge is upset when Picard tells him that the cultural value of the item would
be hugely increased if it could be repaired into operating condition.
"You want me to fix this,this hunk of whatever?" he asks.
"Yes, Mr LaForge" the captain replies," Make it sew"...

This is a Diane Duane book and she is one of my favourite Trek authors. I
really ejoyed this book; it had a very interesting concept, as well as the *
Enterprise*-D working with fellow starships instead of solo.

I also liked that after the U.S.S. *Oraidhe*'s crew is drained of their
intellect, leaving behind living, mindless husks, they were thinking of
recommissioning the ship with a different name or perhaps decommissioning
her entirely, because of what happened to the crew.

I just recently picked this book up, and its a book that I've been wanting to
read for a while since the cover is rather perculiar looking with Data seeming
to be on drugs or as if he should be on the cover of "The Alien Ate My Teacher"
or some book like that.

Plus this book seems like it should belong in the "Stargazer" series since I've
already "met" two characters who are mentioned to be old-Stargazer crewmates of
Captain Picard.

As Kirk rejoins his crew for hugs and congratulations, we go to the BACK of the
hangar… SPOCK PRIME. Watching. Moved beyond words. He turns and leaves them to
it… as he goes…

KIRK PRIME (V.O.)
I know what you'd say — `It's their turn now, Jim…' And of course you're
right… but it got me thinking:

INT. STARFLEET HOSPITAL – EARTH – DAY
Our montage comes full circle as we END on Kirk's transmission:

KIRK PRIME
Who's to say we can't go one more round? By the last tally, only twenty five
percent of the galaxy's been chartered… I'd call that negligent. Criminal even
— an invitation. You once said being a starship captain was my first, best
destiny… if that's true, then yours is to be by my side. If there's any true
logic to the universe… we'll end up on that bridge again someday.

Stops, grins. Because this is the part he needs to say most…

It must have been a hard sell at first - okay - lets do an overview of the
Eugenics War and mix Gary Seven into it - I thought it worked very well and I
ended up interested and intrigued in both Khan - Never had been before - and
Gary Seven - also never had been interested in him either - that entire episode
was too disjointed for me and I didn't care for it at all.
 
The way Cox wove the war into the current (past!) events on earth and Roberta
and Isis'  parts were enjoyable and *believable* for me. I found myself
wondering how Roberta's career went after the events of the war and there is a
little nugget for Voyageurs - Sarah Silverman's character Rainn becomes
Roberta's new recruit/mentee.  Really nicely done.  Call me a wankyfan but I
love seeing the points of separation intersect!
 
Not every author will tickle everyone's fancy but I thororoughly enjoyed the
entire trilogy.

At the end Xin wasn't on the shuttle because he transported to the Eye with
Modana, and then sent Modana back while he staid on the Eye inorder to
manipulate the pulses that the Eye was sending out to create the folds that
Titan was currently sending a beam at inorder to stop it from expanding
outwards.  Once Modana beamed back that was it for any mention as to Xin's
location.

I never found a spot in the book where Geoffrey Thorne had Ra-Havreii
reappear back on Titan. But I know that Ra-Havreii was back in Titan in the
Destiny trilogy. Do we ever find out what happened to Ra-Havreii between

Will there be a book published that deals with Spock Prime's debriefing on the
events in what used to be the original timeline?

Also, is it possible that the 800 lives Kirk's dad saved included those of the
Klingon ships' crew (seen in deleted scenes) that wouldve been destroyed had the
USS Kelvin not rammed the Narada?

Personally, I think an online library for out of print books is a fabulous
idea. Obviosuly it has to be done right to prevent writers from starving and
intellectual properly being stolen, but just as a general archive? How many
books and manuscripts have been lost down through time? How many more people
would actually read "books" if they were available in e-format to read on
PDAs and Kindle-esque devices?

Feel free to wade in with any opinions!

It's been about six years since I read this anthology.  One of the interesting
things was Dr. McCoy's appearance in Dax's life in the 23rd century (obviously
not the same "Dax" as was in Star Trek VI), plus the story about Joran Dax was a
very interesting story to read, considering that on the show the producers never
really touched upon how the error was made, even though Joran appeared twice
(once in Season 3 and then again in Season 7) "as himself", and once as a
spirit-possessed Sisko.

I read this one quite some time ago too. I like how the first story and last
story tied together nicely. I also liked how Dr McCoy was in one of the stories.

Writing "historical fiction" can be so difficult when the history itself is
so "fuzzy."

Enterprise.

I got this one during the last week of October.



I am still in the first 3rd of the book but based on what I've read so far,
Michael Martin has deftly weaved a very robust and layered story about the
origins of this war. It's just amazing to read this stuff and it makes you
wonder what could have happened if ENTERPRISE has been allowed to have 3
more years. Who knows what the TV writers could have come up with? J Maybe
in a parallel universe it was epic. :-P



It's hard to believe the wealth of imagination that the original "Balance Of
Terror" episode inspired in future generations.



I think that Michael Jan Friedman tried to come up with an origin story for
this war in his "Starfleet Year One" but I am not sure if that held any
water after "ENTERPRISE" hit the airwaves.



All I gotta say is that it's really, really good stuff and if folks don't
have a copy, go get one. It's probably going to be the last ENTERPRISE story
before 2011 I think.
