Commander Simon Randall had made sure the repair crew on the Verizon  knew they
were being watched by him.  Though the repairs were not serious Simon just
wanted to make sure everything was done right to his ship. Where ever work was
being done he would pop in to check things out just to make sure it met his
approval.  When Simon had left the area they would say, " how that old man get
on this ship? He looks old enough to have been on first star ship. "  they would
laugh and go back to work. 
 
Simon also wanted his engines ready to go at a hours notice.  Having LT Emerson
report to his office Emerson asked, " what's up chief? "
 
" Dan I want you to make sure the engines could be ready to go at short notice.
I want you to make a final check on things. "
 
" Something happening chief? " Dan asked.
 
" Nah just want to make sure, " Simon replied.  " And by the way I'm going on
the base for couple hours.  The repair crews are just finishing up and they'll
be glad not to see me looking over their backs. anymore, " he said with a grin
and a twinkle in his eyes.
 
Dan nodded but he knew his boss had been driving the work crews nuts with his
sticking his nose into their work.  " I'll keep a eye on things and have a good
time Chief. "  Then Dan walked out into the department to make a final check on
the engines.
 
Randall went back to his quarter took a shower and changed out of his overalls
into some civvies. He hadn't been off the ship since it arrived and figured now
was the time to grab couple cold beers and relax. He was hoping to find
someplace that was not as noisy as most places on a promenade usually were.
 
He hadn't realized how big the promenade was and had almost given up when he
found a small bar kind of hidden away around a corner.  It didn't seem busy at
all so Simon went in to check it out.  He found it to be quiet even with a few
customers and the music was soothing.  He didn't recognize what was being played
but he liked it. 
 
Simon ordered himself a beer and sat on a stool at the bar sipping his cold
brew. There was some kind of nuts in a big bowl close to him so he tried a few. 
Simon found himself liking the nuts and had another beer.  To him it felt so
good to enjoy the music and his beer that time just seem to pass
and before he knew it he'd spent couple hours enjoying himself.
 
Simon was just paying for his beer when his comm badge went off.  He was told
the ships company was due back now.  Simon had no idea what had happened but
when the Captain said now she meant it.  With that Simon headed back to the
ship.  He'd find out the emergency was about when he got there.
