Please welcome our four new altar servers - Ally Lubeck, Dylan
Sylvester, Grace Phillips, and Allie McKay. They will be serving our
Lord for the first time during the December 5th & 6th masses. We still
need more servers so please encourage all 4th-12th grade students to
become altar servers during our 2010 training sessions. The 2010
sessions will be held some time in late January-early February. Dates
and times will be announced. Please extend my email to any interested
families.

Dear all,
Ebruba Etta cannot make the 5:00 PM Mass on Sat Nov 28 and the 8:30 Mass on
1/1/2010.
Ebruba is looking to exchange these for any masses other than at 10:00 AM or
11:30 AM. Thanks.

Here is the final schedule. I filled in as many vacant spots as I could. Each mass has at least two servers and I have hightled the areas where there is still a need for a server. If you feel your child/family can pick up one of the available spots, please let me know. Also, please be respectful of the holidays and do your best to find a substitute should your child be unable to serve their scheduled mass.

Some folks are a wee bit behind (one or two masses) in terms of the number of times I have their child recorded as scheduled to serve. I will notify those that are a little behind, not as a punitive measure, but, as an FYI. Most of you pick up masses when there is a sub request, and I am aware of this. I simply can only track so much. Personally, I think the self scheduling is working pretty well. I'm always open to positive suggestions! The way I look at it is that you can't help fix something when you don't know it needs fixin'! If I send you an email, and you know your child has picked up his or her fair share of sub requests, just ignore my email and let your conscience rule.  We're all adults. I just have to have some way of trying to keep the distribution of masses fair.

Lastly, don't forget the refresher training session on 11/15 from 12:30 - 1:30. There will be light refreshments afterwards. Fran VanBrocklin will be organizing this event so please give her a hand if you can. Most importantly, thanks to all of you for helping make this marathon schedule come together. The emails should decrease (yeah) and just think, Easter is right around the corner (another heavy schedule). Enjoy raking leaves in the cooler weather!

Friends:

Please pardon this blatant missive of maternal pride. As some of you know, for their Confirmation service project Andrew and Christopher created a charity called "Rosaries for Research." It was built on the idea that faith is about "acting as if everything depends on you and praying as if everything depends on God." To put this into practice, last spring the boys packaged hundreds of rosaries and distributed them at churches in the Washington area. They asked people to take a rosary and pray for a cure for cancer and to leave a donation if they could. The boys raised more than $1,400 which they donated to the Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown University Hospital and the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health in the memory of their dad.

But this was far too low-tech a solution for Christopher who spent the summer developing the "Rosaries for Research iPhone app" which is now available for download on iTunes. (And  you just know Bill is just busting a gut with pride over this one). It costs 99 cents to download this basic app. All proceeds from downloads will be donated to Lombardi and NIH. If you have an iPod Touch or an iPhone, I would encourage you to download it. The idea is to send money to researchers and prayers (from all denominations and faiths) up to heaven to bring about a cure for this awful disease. Please let friends and family know about this as well.

Thanks for indulging me by reading this and doing what you can.

Tracy
