Re: [stalbansnostalgia] Re: Ashes

I was recently visited by a friend over from Rotterdam where he lives on his own ship.  He came over for his sister's 60th birthday party in the Clytha Arms, between Ross and Abergavenny.  The "morning after" he took part in an inter-pub cricket match between the Clytha  and another pub called the Goose and Cuckoo.  Each pub supplied a barrel of beer to be drunk by the players during the match.  So yes, I guess it still goes on....

The Americans haven't adopted cricket so I miss the Ashes and internationals, only time we hear anything is if someone gets a cracked skull from a new demon bowler. Maybe it's just as well though because I left England when cricketers wore white and didn't need face masks and crash hats. Trueman was our demon bowler. Do the village matches still follow the old fashion of cricket?

Hope your husband gets out of hospital soon they are such depressing establishments in my experience.
