Special Needs Homeschoolers support group was started in Austin, Texas area by a homeschooling parent who did not find any organizations that dealt specifically with homeschooling of special needs issues faced by many families in that area. As parents we are responsible for our children's mental as well as physical health as it pertains to education. In researching, parents and non-profit organizations have found that special education law for public school systems has limitations due to its wording and cannot fully accomodate the needs of all special needs chidren as it pertains to both academics and health. One of the purposes of the group is to inform its members of resources for legal helps and academics, both on the web and locally within the Austin area. As folks consider moving to or from Austin they may need information on resources for where they will be going.
