E&C cycle bypass - Meadow Row / New Kent Road   Message List
Reply Message #8207 of 8458 |
Hi
I got stopped by the police on the way out of town tonight for cycling on the pavement for the 10 metres between Meadow Row and the de facto shared cycle/pedestrian crossing of New Kent Road. Luckily for me they were willing to accept my protestations that this is the official cycle route and even said they would consult their iphone to check. However I pushed my bike over the crossing.

There is a sign on the south side of the crossing showing a plan of the cycle route that I'd always taken to mean I could ride on the pavement going south but maybe this is not the case?

This comes after the removal of the barrier to the cycle path on the south side of NKR. It does seem that as the Heygate demolition starts that the useful bit of cycle route there could be closed off with no alternative provided.

Ben

If that happened that is a disgrace on the part of the police - that is a designated cycle route at least it is supposed to be - been using if for years! ...

Yes I checked out the pavement this morning and it does have some faded lines indicating a cycle path. Not easily visible at night anymore. Some signs on the...
