I got stopped by the police on the way out of town tonight for cycling on the pavement for the 10 metres between Meadow Row and the de facto shared cycle/pedestrian crossing of New Kent Road. Luckily for me they were willing to accept my protestations that this is the official cycle route and even said they would consult their iphone to check. However I pushed my bike over the crossing.Â
There is a sign on the south side of the crossing showing a plan of the cycle route that I'd always taken to mean I could ride on the pavement going south but maybe this is not the case?Â
This comes after the removal of the barrier to the cycle path on the south side of NKR. It does seem that as the Heygate demolition starts that the useful bit of cycle route there could be closed off with no alternative provided.
