Building is projected to be complete by Nov or Dec 2009.
We are a retired couple looking for a mature single or couple to share our farm
with us. For a single it would be $350.00 and a couple $500.00 a month. This
will be a 3/2 1500 sf manufactured home. You will have your own bedroom and
bath. The rest of the house will be shared. The rent covers everything except
your personal expenses, like your own phone. car, insurance, etc. This person(s)
needs to have a source of income that does not require working a job. This is
not a typical rental arrangement, it is a sharing of the farm, the work, the
food, the lifestyle: more a member of the family than a renter, also after a
determined time there will be an equity sharing of the farm. A long term
commitment is our objective. You must love animals and knowledgeable about
livestock and gardens is a definite plus. We have 3 dogs. Smokers ok, but only
outside, no drinking or drugs, and with this type of arrangement there will be
a background check. .
To put it simply we are looking for like minded people to share our self
sufficient, sustainable farm and wonderful loving lifestyle. You will have the
opportunity to homestead and live life on your own terms.

I would definitely be interested in a pot luck or social gathering and Boca
would be better than Delray as I'm coming from Miami.

Happy to help with promoting and pulling such an event together.

We need more of a poly community here in sfl!!

Hi everyone,

If I were to organize a get-together in Boca Raton or Delray Beach for
a Saturday or Sunday brunch, who would attend?

I'm very accustomed to and experienced in organizing groups and
events, as I used to do frequently when I lived up north. However, I
have health issues and time management issues (one major challenge of
responsible polyamory is that multiple relationships take more work
and time than conventional dyad relationships) , and I only have the
energy and time to do something that would be very easy for me to get
to and that would not require a lot of facilities research.

By the way, I do work well with others as a team, if there are others
who might be interested in doing an event but don't know how - hint,
hint.

In the meantime, it sounds like there are a few folks who are fairly
new to polyamory on the list - yay for new people and fresh energy -
so I can at least offer some useful polyamory resources until a local
poly meeting can be cobbled together.

Useful resources about polyamory:

Books:

Opening Up, by Tristan Taormino (haven't read it yet, but I've heard a
lot of good things about it)

The Ethical Slut, by Dossie Eaton and Catherine A. Liszt (not my
favorite book, but a lot of people like it)

Polyamory: The New Love Without Limits : Secrets of Sustainable
Intimate Relationships, by Deborah Anapol (very new-age)

Websites:

http://www.xeromag. com/fvpoly (maintained by Franklin Veaux, a.k..a
Tacit, a very smart and funny guy with Florida ties who attended and
presented at the last Florida Poly Retreat)

http://www.lovemore.com/ (maintained by Loving More, a fabulous group
who acts as a sort of central clearing house of poly info and who puts
on conferences)

http://www.polyamoryonline.org/ (maintained by Polyamorous
Percolations, a group I don't know much about but who seems to know
their stuff)

Poly-friendly online dating sites:

http://www.okcupid. com (warning - putting yourself out as poly can
attract a lot of idiots, especially if you're female, but then, just
being female on a dating site with a lot of people can do that, too;
also, since a lot of people really don't understand the difference
between poly and cheating, it might be wise to clearly specify that
you don't want to be contacted by anyone who doesn't understand the
difference between cheating and poly)

http://www.polymatchmaker.com (which also has poly resources and a poly forum)

I have heard that http://www.plentyoffish.com is also poly-friendly,
but I haven't used the site, so I can't personally vouch for it)

More random information:

There is a fair amount of overlap between the poly and kink
communities, and if anyone is interested, I can post some references
specific to that intersection.

OK, I'm off my soapbox. If you're new to poly and you have specific
questions about poly that are not addressed on the websites above, I
suggest posting them to this list. I've been in the poly world for a
long time and I know a few things about poly, and I know there are
other people on this list who have experience in poly life who might
be able to help.

Hi
Good to see some "action" on this group.  I've just moved back to Florida and just returned from the Poly Living Conference in San Francisco sponsored by Loving More.  The conference was awesome with great presenters such as Dossie Easton, co-author of THE ETHICAL SLUT
and Mark Lewis, author of RELATION DANCING (my personal favorite book on relationships-poly or other).

I used to host a monthly discussion group here in Florida and would be glad to do so again or attend other venues.  I live in Sunrise so it might be out of the way for some.  I did try to post on the Poly Meetup group but I was kicked off (don't know why).

Lets get some meetings going!!!!
Hugs
Jimi

PS: "The Loving More website www.lovemore.com has great articles and info on Poly.

Hi Grady and Gloria,

My name is Glen and I currently live in the Gardens. I have been interested in
the poly lifestyle now for the past several years. I have had a very hard time
trying to find local people to talk about this with, though. Many people I
speak to either look at me like I'm nuts or some kind of pervert. When I try to
talk with women about it, they get very threatened. I don't understand what is
so scary about choosing poly. I think there are many different definitions of
poly, but most people think that I'm just talking about promiscuity, without
even giving me a chance to further explain. As a student of human nature and
anthropology, I can tell you that, as far as I can tell, humans are NOT
naturally monogamous. Since we are all local folk, perhaps we can meet up some
time to talk over ideas?

Glen

Hi Rayna - My wife and I attended several Poly Central  and Poly Tampa meetings and Poly Tampa events several years ago.  My wife has since deceased and I am seeking ways to get back into the Poly scene.  It is lonesome with no one to love.

Seems unusual to find another Owens, and not related either that I know of.

Hi Grady and Gloria,

Thanks for the introduction and request for suggestions.  I can understand where you are coming from as I think most of us who are poly have a hard time finding others of like mind.  That’s why I’m glad to have this list, even if its mostly quiet!

Here’s my dos centavos.

There was a Florida Polyamory gathering last year, and they didn’t get enough registrations to do it this year, but keep your eyes open for that.  At least there we all know we are meeting like minded folks!

There is a member of this list who hosts monthly drum circles, so we can gather and meet others of like mind.

The fantastic website/podcast called Polyamory Weekly http://polyweekly.com/ had a great segment a few months back on how to meet other poly folks.  Besides explicitly poly events like conventions and such, Minx suggested that there are a higher than average number of poly folks in the sci-fi, pagan, and BDSM communities…so if you are at all open to any of those scenes a sci fi or pagan festival can also be a pretty good place to meet poly folks.  I’m pagan and I know lots of pagans who are poly.  Many aren’t, but they are at least cool with the idea.

Good luck with your quest…in my opinion its much better to wait for the right person/couple than to force the issue…but we each have different tastes and that’s what makes the poly world so interesting.

Blessings,

Rayna

Blessings,

Rayna

Hi - I saw your post and felt I would at least reply so that you know someone is
out here. I guess I am a "motherly" sort and I live locally in Broward county.
My husband and I have explored and tried to live a polyamorous lifestyle for the
past 10 years or so with mixed results.

A huge huge question is always ..... WHERE might we find others who want to live
and practice polyamory with us. That my friend is the million dollar question.
There is a web site called poly matchmaker and a south florida poly meet-up site
you could try. But other then that, you would find poly partners just like you
would find any partner.

Knowing what polyamory is might be a little easier, although many have different
interpretations of "loving more then one partner" common questions seem to crop
up about the relationship functioning ie. dating alone/ together, sex/no sex/
limited sex, sharing holidays, and so on and so on. Most successful couples
discuss and/or experiment with these different relationship dynamics until
everyone's comfort zone is found. Also, you can find these and many others
topics explored indepth on line.

Hope this helps a bit. Diane

Hey Michael,

Its Sequoia, you let Hawk and I sleep on your floor after your last drum circle.

Here at Seminole we're having our very first drum circle. I started a blog for the camp over here: http://seminole-nudist-resort.com/?p=7

Anyways, if you have any advice on running events of this nature or if you could possibly put it in your newsletter for drum circles, I'd really appreciate it.
