San Onofre is just a bit (20 mins.)south of you and there is a kayak friendly
area at the south end of the beach. I have a boat (Necky Groovy) and a paddle
you can use or buy if you'd like cheap. I have a spray skirt for the boat but I
doubt it would fit you unless your pretty big? I'm 6'3" 245lbs as an example of
"big". SanO on most Saturdays either has some kayakers or at least some wave
skis out along with all the SUP's.

Hi. I just moved to Aliso Viejo from the southeast where I left my ww

Rental Car? Where are you or what happened that you need a rental? I'm headed to
SanO in the morning to see if I can pick out some little fun ones just for the
mental break. I know not much is happening now but I hope there is enough to
have some fun.

Two days of surfing in a row with about 10 minutes notice before I knew I was
going. Hit the beach at 6 am on Monday for a board session with my nephew for
about three hours. Good session with waist to chest high sets. There was about
two hours when it went overhead then died down to waist high at best.
Tuesday I took out the Twist and had a blast in chest high with about a two hour
window where inconsistent head high sets came in. Had a blast hitting the lip
late and getting some small airs. Not as comfortable as I was since I haven't
been able to surf, but it felt GREAT to be on the water and cranking some turns.
I was a bit reserved, which wasn't at all like me...thinking I need more water
time.
I go to dayshift, weekdays for four weeks begining the first full week of July
so I am looking forward to some weekend sessions since I won't be bound to
weekend workloads.
It was a good idea to get out early, I went down to check a friends house at
high tide to make sure their deck wasn't floating away and I thought I might get
a hour in. It was blowing a gale and snot from Overhead to Rincon.
Nasty.........

We met at the Overhead at 6 am...or Taylor and Geoff did with me arriving at
about 730 am. The wind was onshore and blowing well enough to keep anyone
without a paddle out of the water.

It was a lot of work, but worth the good rides. It was good to get out for a
little distraction from the job routine.

There were some fun waves, for sure. A good reminder to put float bags in when
my skirt came part way off. UGH. Such work getting back to shore. That's a
long paddle in a sinking boat!

Tempting, buy my flip flops out of a surf mag, wear a hoodie with logos, wear
board shorts when it's forty degrees out, surf shop stickers everywhere, trouble
is, I would have to lose weight and let what's left of my hair grow out, I don't
think I have it in me........

If that is the same boat Jamie took to the Ireland worlds it is no good in the surf at all. She and Jono were both sponsored by Wave Sport and were given those boats to compete in and we made them get out of them after the first round of competition because they sucked. After they got in real surf boat they both did pretty well.
Nice analogy Sage. ;o)

Chris,
The Flyer is a surf specific design. I've never surfed one, but it
looked like a cool design. Small and playful.
Jamie Cooper had one at SC a few years ago, and it looked fast. I
seem to remember Jared Nocceti saying he had a tough time getting
comfortable in it. At 6', that could be an issue for Max. Make sure
you sit in it before buying.
Also, that guy has been trying to sell that boat for a while. Bargain. =>

If you want to go cheap and get a glass surf boat that has prior surf
experience in Santa Barbara and surrounding areas, I have a Necky Groovy
I am willing to part with. Not pretty and seen better days but is
seaworthy and easy to paddle, roll and surf. Great surf specific starter
boat.

A grand will get you far, and your weight puts you right into the optimal range for a lot of boats. When you find something, post back here and let us know. Between this group, we've probably surfed most of the boats out there, so someone should be able to chime in with an opinion before you buy.

I'm 6', 175 lbs, and looking to spend something under a grand. From the look of
things this put me an a used boat, but I have no problem with that.

I'm a student at UCSB, but I brought my car down this quarter so I can travel,
and am willing to go fairly far, in order to pick up a boat. Thanks for the
advice, I'll try out boatertalk.

Hi,
I'm a whitewater boater looking to get into surf kayaking. I was wondering if
anybody knew where I could find a boat for sale? My wavesport ZG just isn't
cutting it and I'm looking to upgrade to fiberglass or possibly one of the
megas.
Thanks
