Description

PLEASE NOTE: THIS GROUP IS FOR FAMILIES WHO ARE FOLLOWING AN UNSCHOOLING APPROACH OR ARE INTERESTED IN DOING SO. IT IS NOT A GENERAL HOME EDUCATION GROUP.

The aim is to help unschooling families living in the south of England to connect with each other, and particularly to organise meetings and activities that suit an unschooling approach and bring our families together to support each other.

We define unschooling as a combination of natural learning, a whole of life approach, and being your child's partner (sometimes referred to as 'radical unschooling' to differentiate it from child-led education). There are good explanations of this approach at the Joyfully Rejoicing site linked below.

Our primary aim is to facilitate 'real world' meetings, so the group is intended for people within a specific region, which currently covers the central southern counties of Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey & W Sussex. People from other counties are welcome to join if you are able to travel to meetings or wish to use the list to organise a session close to your home. Anyone on the list can organise any type of session, so, over time, we hope to see meetings spread across the region.

We welcome anyone from this area to join the group if you are committed to pursuing an unschooling life with your family. It doesn't matter if you are just starting out on this journey, in the process of switching over from a mainstream approach or if you have years of unschooling behind you. All are welcome, as are families with children of all ages.

The group is not intended as a general online unschooling support group (though of course members are free to discuss unschooling issues through the group), so if you are looking for this type of community, you may wish to look at other groups, eg UnschoolingUK (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UnschoolingUK/) and the UK group on Radical Unschoolers Network (http://familyrun.ning.com/group/ukunschoolers).

We look forward to meeting you soon.
